"tonight on hannity and colmes, Golden Compass can brain wash your kids in to anti religious thinking,we expose the hidden messages.":O

lol gotta see this, today 6pm PST and 9pm EST

"hidden messages"?

Hah, if it's like the books there's nothing at all hidden about the blatently anti-relgious aspects of the story.

It being able to brainwash kids into thinking that way is another story.

What a huge surprise. I can't believe they're going to tone down the atheism; it's not like it's going to help. They might as well go full-on.

What the hell? I thought it was just a kids fantasy movie...guess I was wrong.

lol "stealth campaign that promotes ATHEISM!!!*drama*" is hilarious

What pisses me off about the movie... and many movies like it is this.

WHY is so much power transferred into such trivial handheld items? A compass? Come on, a compass? Granted I don't know anything about the film or what inspired it... but I've seen this trend in way too many books/movies. An item of unimaginable power is instilled into the most mundane and idiotic items.

"A compass... they'll never expect it to be in here! Mua ha ha ha ha ha ha".

Actually, thanks to these lame books that's the first place I'd expect it to be... or maybe a belt buckle or cloak clasp.

The proper title should be Northern Lights. "Golden Compass" is the Americanised/Hollywood version of the name.

In all honesty, this sort of stuff is just too bizarre for real life. It almost seems like parody news you used to see in scifi movies from the eighties.

FYI: It's not a compass, it's not 'magical', (it's actually an incredibly rare device), and it's not a very unimaginable power within it. It's not actually the centre of the story much. This is just stupid advertising laziness hooking onto the prevalence of 'power items' in blockbuster fantasy.

EDIT: ha, the article gets the story completely wrong.

Seems more like a parody from The Simpsons, to be honest.

I'm really glad I don't live in the United States. I'd probably kill myself if I did.

overheard in quebec:

"you're not american? you're from toronto? ...same thing"

true story

A children’s fantasy film that stars Nicole Kidman and features a little girl on a quest to kill God has some Christian groups upset over what they believe is a ploy to promote atheism to kids.

Wait, did you read the books? You know what? **** it. This kind of brainless, fanatical retardism is dragging humanity into the shit-pile. Please die Fox News.

Yeah, the people from Quebec are pretty much in their own country, and are real jerks to anyone who speaks English. I've heard plenty of stories from people. Frankly, I just don't take Quebec all that seriously.

well to be fair I've met the above mentioned quebecois but I've also met a few that are much nicer when nekkid ..especially if I'm also nekkid ..so they're not all bad :naughty:

I know what you mean. This is making me so goddamn agnry. ****tards need to be thrown into a pit.

Attack of the too much information. :|

I'm not saying all are like that

ya, I know, I just wanted to tell a story where I'm nekkid :naughty:

but I have certainly heard negative opinions about Toronto from people from Quebec. Of course, that negativity isn't exclusive to Quebec. Practically all of Canada hates Toronto.

yup pretty much ..funny but when asked they cant pinpoint a reason

Yeah they didn't really plan to kill 'god'. It was an attack of opportunity as far as I remember and he was only a figurehead anyway.

bwhahahaa:LOL: nice

God was a "bad guy" in the sense that he lied about pretty much everything, but he was ultimately imprisoned by the Regent, Metatron, who's the real antagonist and the one they need to destroy. But that was never Lyra's ****ing mission anyway.

Atheism leads to world wide depression and sadness and Radicals lead to world wide war and death.

I'll stay right here on the middle of the see saw and watch you two battle it out in gleeful laughter.

you know why FOX NEWS is blatantly lying about this?
It's because they count on the apathy of Americans towards anything but them selfs sadly.

They know that most christian parents won't look it up to make sure.

What's with them making atheism seem like a terrorism cult that is threatining to kill all Good People In The World(tm)?

Good, cause the commercials make it seem that way... and I'm really tired of that cliche.

having imaginary friends doesn't make the world better either.

Well, judging from where atheism was forced, like the USSR, I'd say it's pretty accurate. And judging from where radicals are forced, like the middle east or Medieval Europe, I'd say it's even more accurate

Medieval Europe
I do believe you are making no sense.

Feudalism, Catholicism and the Great Chain of Being are radical?

And sure, the problem with the USSR was that it was atheistic, not that the atheism was forced on people. By that logic, the forced adoption of religion in early modern europe condemns all religion, and me forcing you to have sex with me condemns all sex.

I am not entirely sure that the Crusades classify as 'radical'. In the sense that they were new, perhaps (not clear on the history) but not in the sense that they were progressive.

If you're from such a damn good school, I shouldn't have to remind you that but for radical shifts capitalism could not exist in anything like its present form.

Yea, you got me there. Radicals are good for change sometimes, but all radicals become normal in time.

Hence the quote. Radicals lead to war and change and death. Such is necessary when new things come about.

Well, except that conservatives (small c) and traditionalists are also necessary for the creation of conflict since they resist the new forms.

The implication of your quote was not that 'war and death and change are the way of things'. Since it omits any sense of fate or innevitability, and any mention of traditionalist ideologies, it implies that these things are both the only result of radicalism, and only the result of radicalism. This is clearly not accurate. Not to mention that the quote doesn't actually mention "change" and you just made that bit up right now.

There is no mention of positive change here. There is no sense of any historical inevitability. There is only your hyperbolic and simplistic: radicalism = "world wide war and death".

Not that I wish to disparage you now that you've conceded the positive aspects of change, but in future you really should think about what you say.

The original meaning of the quote was that I stand in between an watch the two of both parties fight. I take neither side, just laugh in between.

Erm...no it wasn't. 'Atheism' and 'radicalism' aren't two sides. Many people would, in fact, associate them, making your statement a rather conservative and sweeping one.

"Damn godless radicals will destroy the world!"

No, the radicals are the overzealous types. Hence why I gave the Mideveal church and the middle east as examples.

I can't believe I'm going to divide up and explain my own words, but what the hell:

Atheism leads to world wide depression and sadness
USSR
and Radicals lead to world wide war and death.
The Church at it's most corrupt times, Islam today, etc.
I'll stay right here on the middle of the see saw and watch you two battle it out in gleeful laughter.

The meaning of my words originally.

Stop twisting my own words. The above is what I meant, sorry if anyone confused it.

Fine, whatever. Only:

That's not true.

That's not what the word 'radical' usually means. It doesn't have specifically religious connotations. Maybe you're looking for 'zealot' or 'extermist'? Those can be secular as well.

I'm not twisting your words. You aren't bothering to make sense.

Since when has Fox News been a real news station anyway?

I always figured they were some parody of real news.
