Yesterday, Gawker ran what appeared to be a photo of a bloated, leathery animal corpse ? only it was like no animal anyone had seen before. A stout, hairless creature with a beak, claws, and the almond-shaped eyes familiar from renderings of space aliens, it looked, in short, like a monster. Hence the headline: "Dead Monster Washes Ashore in Montauk."

Has this been verified by anyone of reasonable standards?

Of course not, and they only have a shot from one angle. They debunked this pretty quick on SA, hold on Ill find the images.

Its a dog.

If anything like this is ever to be taken seriously, it has to be video documented and autopsied.

Ok, I saw something exactly like this a couple years ago. It's actually just the product of coyotes inbreeding. It's no big deal. It's actually lucky that it managed to get to adulthood like that.

doesnt explain the beak ..coyotes crossbreeding with birds? or possibly a kraken

anyone notice it's... hands... tied up? why would they need to be? it's obviously dead.

My guess was going to be viral marketing for Spore.

not too mention having a rotting corpse potentially contanimating an area just for entertainment purposes

Hey, bacteria need to feed too...

Segregationist bastards!

Looks like a dog with a half-rotted face, what.

That looks absolutely nothing like a dog.

so what's the verdict, bird screwed a dog who screwed a fish...etc?

Well from the coments, the best explanation so far is that it's a decomposed nutria.

How do you know it's not a Fantastipotamus?

I don't see how it can't be a dog. A half skinned dog's skull might look like a beak from a certain angle.

beaks don't have teeth ... or else it wouldn't be a beak.

I mean.. correct me if I'm wrong and there exists a creature that has a beak with teeth.

EDIT -

Note: Aves, or birds, have a complete double circulation, oviparous, reproduction, front limbs peculiarly modified as wings; and they bear feathers. All existing birds have a horny beak, without teeth; but some Mesozoic fossil birds (Odontornithes) had conical teeth inserted in both jaws. The principal groups are: Carinat[ae], including all existing flying birds; Ratit[ae], including the ostrich and allies, the apteryx, and the extinct moas; Odontornithes, or fossil birds with teeth.

It's possible, though no beaked creature with teeth still exists.

My opinion? It doesn't even look like a beak. This creature resembles something similar to a rotted dog corpse.

Doesn't even matter, the bottom jaw pretty much exactly matches that of a dog :|
