Ok, every once and a while I get ideas and such, so I figure I'll just share a concept I had recently thought of.
I dont know if it is good or bad or if it has been thought of before, or done before, but here it is anyways since I don't plan to make it, unless someone else does and needs guidance with ideas in which case I would be happy to think up new stuff for it, maybe makeing some concept art too if I'm bored..
So here is the mod concept:
It is set in the Xen world and you are a baby headcrab.
The goal of the game is to find your lost mother, the Gonarch, which for some reason has left you. There are two endings I have in mind for the game, but that isn't important right now..
As all people who have played Half-Life know, the headcrab can jump and attach itself to a host and control them. You, the baby headcrab is a somewhat advanced form due to it's mental capacity (because we are controling the character) and so this individual can think at a higher level, enough in that it wants to find its mother.
While you are controlling the headcrab, the view would probably be best in 3rd person so that you can have an easier time manuevering around the envirement and handling situations.
What will be present in the Xen world is an ecosystem where there is a food chain, and this becomes a large part of the game.
As you start out as a baby headcrab, you must survive since you are alone and so you must find the right food to eat. At this stage you are very small, and so you must feed on smaller things. There are also other xen life which try and eat you too.
At this stage you aren't mature enough to possess the nesessary skill to control a host, so you spend your time finding food so you may grow while at the same time trying to survive predators.
Throughout the game you would grow larger and develope, basically becoming stronger with perhaps gaining new skills. If you dont eat for a long time, you begin to become weaker and shrink.
Part of the game would revolve around controlling other species in Xen. To control them, you would first be required to launch yourself at their head and latch onto it when you hit it. When this happens you would either stay in 3rd person or maybe go into 1st person mode, 3rd person may be best. So then you would be controlling the host, and maybe feeding on it at the same time? The game would have many instances where you would be required to use a xen lifeform to do a certain thing to progress through the game. Basically you can also use the host to fight and travel and such (kind of like a robot suit).
Some xen life are more intelligent than others and understand your plan to control them, and so they would make attempts to knock you away if you launch at them, or some may attempt to step on you and various things. So manuever around would be critical as a headcrab to outmanuever an intelligent animal, so for example you would be able to do rolls and jumps and such.
Also there would be other headcrabs which you can't control along with other beings which you can't control aswell..
The other headcrabs would be like your arch enemies which are practically equal as you but more tricky and such, perhaps some with different abilities (maybe you acquire the abilities from these?). They would be like mini bosses.
The xen world would probably have various types of envirements to keep the atmosphere fresh and to acknowledge progress through the grame.
Perhaps you can unlock some naturally created portals which emit from the xen areas and alow you to jump from envirement to envirement. For example you travel to one envirement where various types of species live and you want to control a certain animal and bring him back to some other location in another envirement, but instead of traveling back through the whole place, you search for a way to unlock a natural occuring portal which is clogged up somehow.
And that is all I have thought..
