This is great fun, it was mentioned in PC Gamer, and it's freeware.

Main Page

Basic Installation
Hi-Res Textures
Sound Addon Page (the basic installation doesn't come with sound).
Apollo Missions addon
Minuteman ICBM addon

It's a simulator, so if you're not interested in flight sims, I doubt you'd get much joy with this space simulator. But it's pretty fun for me just messing around with the space shuttle, trying to get it into orbit and that kind of thing. And launching ICBMs about.

You might have to read the instructions to get started, but use the joystick and numpad arrows to steer, ctrl and the numpad_plus to increase thrust and that should be enough for a quickstart.

The hell happened there I said S-C-U-N-T-H-O-R-P-E

Downloading....

edit:

complete.

Its too damned hard. But interesting nevertheless.

Why doesn't it crash when it hits the ground?

In your dreams...

This game is seriously amazing for a 1-man creation.

Yeah. But I still cant figure out how to dock and undock.

From the site:
But make no mistake - ORBITER is not a space shooter. The emphasis is firmly on realism, and the learning curve can be steep. Be prepared to invest some time and effort to brush up on your orbital mechanics background. A good starting point is JPL's Space Flight Learners' Workbook.

So yes, it supposed to be hard, since it's realistic.

wow that is awesome kirov!

np Kore.

Yeah if you press F9 you can see all the patterns in the sky and identify the planets.

I've downloaded it and extracted it to my "Orbiter" folder. Now what?

Does anyone have a list of the controls? The HUD is very confusing.

:O

The_monkey: Are you sure you downloaded the basic installation (see my first post in this thread)?

15357: Controls are listed in doc\orbiter.pdf

Basic ones include using the numpad for thrust control and steering.

However some of the controls are craft-specific, so you will probably need to check the manual out if you want to do complicated stuff like docking.

I don't think the_monkey did.
