Anyone know of any?

I've been playing NWN2 : SoZ and I want to play more, as I finished it and there seems nothing more replay value,
so I was wondering if there was any games similar to the type of game play it contained?

The baldur gates series maybe?

Would like it to be based on D&D if possible, but I wouldn't be too fussed if it wasn't.

Give Baldur's Gate a try if you haven't before (i'd start with no.2 and expansion), it's great . Also check out Planescape Torment - it's possibly the greatest PC rpg. I haven't played either in years - there might be resolution patches about - and am pretty tempted to give them another crack. Fallout and Icewind Dale deserve attention too :)

NWN is a poor man's Baldur's Gate. It's Baldur's Gate minus the charm and atmosphere. Not a bad game - good in co-op - but not a Bioware great.

Yeah im probally going to get Baldurs gate aswell.

Maybe check out this widescreen/resolution mod. http://www.gibberlings3.net/widescreen/

I don't know if it's any good - has anyone else tried it? I'm getting psyched up to start BG2 again, but don't know if I can handle such a low res.

//edit

I just found a 1400*900 pic of Planescape. Doesn't look too shabby at all :)

You take that back right now! NWN is great fun in single-player, at least if you're a fan of the DnD system like me.

I won't take it back! :p

(I did quite like it ;))

I never got into NWN1. I hated the way the party system worked in the OC - 1 player made character and 1 minion you can barely control -.-

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.

I have Clear Sky, but I haven't got around to it yet.

Well, It does look good at that res, but need to find them somewhere.

What about Planescape or Icewind or even BG?

Played and Loved, shame I never got to try it online, or any of the modules for it.

As far as Black Isle games, Icewind Dale 1/2 are my favorites. I love that I can customize my entire party from the get go. I love that it takes place on the spine of the world. I love the whole damn story etc etc.

Can't go wrong with a lot of the old Black Isle classics. Also, I highly suggest checking out The Witcher. The enhanced version that recently released runs on more machines.

AMAZING game. Can we be best friends now?

Any good RPGs for the DS? Something similar to that Nox game referenced above? I used to play a game for the Sega Genesis called "Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun" that I really enjoyed. Haven't played too many RPGs aside from that. Don't really like the Oblivion type 3d rpg play, I was looking for a top downer. Any advice?

I don't have any advice for the DS, however, if you like top-down RPGs, you have to get the Ultima 7 games + expansions, you can run them on windows using EXULT(Google it), they are some of the best RPGs ever made.

Thanks for the tip. I don't have a "gaming" PC right now but I imagine my work PC wouldn't have much trouble. I'll have to check them out. Thanks again.

Yes. Planescape: Torment, along with Fallout (when ran in high-res) are amazing 2D games. A little known fact about Fallout: every single item in the game was rendered from a 3D model painstakingly created by T-Ray in 3D modelling software of the time.

This. Infinitely superior to Oblivion, with a better character system (that still sucks, but that's another thing entirely ;)), a rich and unique world that really shows off just how deep the world of the Elder Scrolls can be (it's definitely not "generic LotR fantasy gaem #12123") and has the Dwemer. Seriously, I love the Dwemer. Finding their artifacts, collecting them, analyzing the layouts of their lairs makes for a little intricate game of their own. Every single one of their cities is like the Glow in Fallout.

Do note that it also needs several mods to play correctly, because Vanilla Morrowind is... unfinished.

As for the OP:

If you want free-roaming, be sure to check out:

1) Fallout (with TeamX's restoration patch, Timeslip's engine tweaks and mash's High Resolution Patch)
2) Fallout 2 (with Killap's Restoration Project, Timeslip's tweaks and mash's high resolution patch)
3) Arcanum (with Drog Black Tooth's Unofficial Arcanum Patch, Bonus Pack and High Resolution Patch)
4) Morrowind (as above)
5) Might & Magic 6, if you can survive the first ten hours of gaming and the old 1996 first person graphics you are in for one hell of a ride. Remember to pay your respects to the dragons in Dragonsands :)
6) Wizardry 8, a combat focused free-roaming RPG with a very, very unique world and furries, well integrated into the world.

For less free roaming, but richer storytelling:

7) Knights of the Old Republic 2, even in it's Lucas-Farts-forced-release state, it's one of the greatest gaming experiences ever (Kreia. <3)

For an absolute storytelling and character development orgasm:

8) Planescape: Torment

Nuff said.

EDIT: Don't dis Morte Rictusgrin.

might have a look at planescape then because ive been hearing a lot about it lately for some reason.

Damn, Planescape still looks good. Shame I've played it inside out. Note: To get the most of the story in Planescape, you shouldn't neglect to become a mage and thief on top of being a fighter, particularly a mage.

@OP - I put in another recommendation for the Baldur's Gate series. Most of the games mentioned here are superb though.

Planescape is seriously

my favourite story-based RPG.

Ever.

One word: Wisdom.

Thanks for the suggestions, but some of those games are really old, any idea where I could find them?

I think ill go and have a look on ebay for planescape then because ive heard nothing but good things about it.

It's a bit difficult to get into but FOR THE LOVE OF GODS STICK WITH IT

It's so worth it.

So we are retro-gaming, right? Well: free roaming + wonderful story = Ultima 6.
If you can handle low-res, poor sound and dos based games, it's a blast from the past, and it's free in most abandonware sites.

EDIT: Oh, well, Ultima 7 is very good too.
