i dont even get to the menu screen, it just stays on the load screen forever, anybody had this problem or know how to fix it? i already uninstalled and installed it again....

Yea, I'm getting somewhat the same thing except the whole game runs fine until I get up to near the 3rd chapter(where the helo is shooting at you and you go down to the sewers) and it gets to the next loading point and it completly freezes and goes back to the start new game, load game, options, etc... screen. I've tried that copy and paste to the bin and get the bin contents and paste and so on...and is still doing it, is there any patches I have to download or what and where can I find them?
I'm thinking it might be my processor since it's only 1.8 p4 and I know it reccommends 2.4 p4, but how come I can play the first 2 chapters and most of the 3rd with no probs? If anyone might have an idea please hook me up.

Ok everyone, I have the solution for the load failure with no error. There is in fact an error and it has to do with memory. You may or may not get this error message that looks like this: "The Instruction at "0x241f8977" referenced memory at "0x01cdf5c0". This memory could not be read".

Here is the fix:

First location:

Right click your Half Life 2 icon on your desktop (the one you would normally double-click to launch the game). Then click Properties. Click the Shortcut Tab. In the line labeled Target, you will see something like this, depending on where you put the program when you installed it:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 22

Copy and paste the following AFTER the above line:

+mat_forcehardwaresync 0 +snd_async_prefetch_priority 1

Be sure there is a space between -applaunch 22 and +mat

Click save and you are ready to go.

Second location:

From the Steam Play Games Menu, right click on Half Life 2. Choose Properties, then click Launch Options. Paste the following in the box.

+mat_forcehardwaresync 0 +snd_async_prefetch_priority 1

Click Ok and you are ready to go.

Do the same fix for Half Life 2 Deathmatch and Counter Strike Source.

Offline and Online Mulitplayer modes will should all work now.

Good Luck!!!

No it didn't work for me either when it crashes at the loading point it goes back to the opening screen, but the background is all black, and when I try to load my last save point, the whole game crashes and shoots me back to my desktop....very wierd.

well my game just doesnt load...period....
Mine didn't either when I first got it, so I rebooted, ran it again, and then let it sit for like half an hour. It eventually came to the loading screen and I didn't get the problem again.

<bump>

Folks...this is a real problem that needs a real solution. I have the same situation where I cannot get past the blurry "loading" screen. It just freezes there and causes me to reboot. Is this a graphics problem or what?!? What is all the advanced settings on the graphics cards suppose to be? Here is my system stats:

Processor: AMD XP 2100
Motherboard: ECS K7VTA3v3 (333Mhz)
RAM: 512Mb PC2100
Graphics: AGP 4x NVIDIA FX5200 128M/128b (66.94 drivers DX9.0c)
Storage: WD 2x40Gb 5700rpm (plenty of room)
OS: Win98SE
Network: RoadRunner on Belkin Router and RCA Cable Modem
History: Plays Doom3 like a mother f'in fire.

Can someone from Valve give this some attention?!?!
