Friend or Foe?

Now, since I've seen that all the "G-man Threads" is not your fauvorite, I hope this one gets an different reaction^^

well, here goes:

The Vortiguants is, at several occations, stopping the G-man from talking to Gordon. (i.e. the hl2 ending)
So, the first time G-man can talk to Gordon since the hl2 ending is when the Vorts are busy healing Alyx.
- "Doctor Freeemaaan. I realize this moment may not be the most convenient for a 'heart-to-heart', but I had to wait until your... 'friends' were otherwise occupied. Hm."

So, the Vortiguants doesn't want G-man to talk to Gordon.
Why?
we do not know. But it seems like both factions are in need of Gordons services to aquire their goals. And since G-man can/tries to affect Gordon the most, I think he isn't really doing whatever he's doing for the greater good of humanity...

Well the Vorts and Gordon are team playing to destroy the Combine and they themselves probably pretty much figured out the G-Man is ambigous to say the least and sometimes gets in the way so it's pretty normal that the Vorts would not want G-Mna near Gordon.
Something tells me G-Man might have a history with th Vorts aswell going back a lot in the past.Hell it wouldn't surprise me if the G-Mna at one time would be working against/for the Vorts.
Weather or not the G-Man is friend or foe of Gordon remains to be seen-it's hard to believe Gordon is more than a pawn for him and he sure as hell don't care about humanity.

I think the Vortiguant's loyalty is probably not shakeable. I also think that's the healthiest way to go about it: For them to be revealed as 'enemies all along' would probably just be too much to swallow, because we've never been properly introduced to the idea that these most recognisable Half-Life enemies are our friends. In Half-Life 2, the player 'trusts' the vorts because they're impervious to bullets, not because they've actually done all that much to earn that trust.

I consider that line a sarcastic rant on how Gordon turned friend from enemy with the Vorts in a unorthodox way.
It also might be a subtile hint that G-Man would want Gordon to turn loyalities again.
But I agree with what you say.

They earned my trust when, during Interloper, they left me the hell alone and let me progress through the first area of the Xen factory unharmed. It was only when watched by controllers in the next area that they went back to attacking. Made me think, "These guys aren't all that bad." Only later did I find out you were originally supposed to lead them in revolt, which was cut.

The G-man's goals seem to not be the benefit for the human race, seeing he was the one that planned the Black Mesa incident. He basically caused the human race to nearly become extinct, and I think it would be funny if he turned out to be a fleshling from Earth himself.

Vortiguants, seem pretty loyal... they saved Alyx twice (with the Citadel explosion and when Alyx was impaled by the Hunter). They took Gordon out of his stasis lock and reveiled who the Combine Advisors are (Shu'ulathoi).

I have a feeling ''they''(G-Man,Vorts,employers or whoever they are) need both Alyx and Gordon,they are now tied up since Alyx was healed by the Vorts.
I think they're a package now.

G-man appeared before the resonance cascade.
in the first corridor, don't turn right at the T-junction.
he talks to a scientist.
obviously he needs to turn up before the resonance cascade because it is G-man who supplies that particular sample.
g-man causes the resonance cascade because he wants humanity to meet with the combine.
and he makes sure gordon is in the picture.
so from these facts, we can pretty much assume that for whatever reason, G-man wants gordon to destroy the combine.

Concerning the Vorts' relationship to Alyx: I forgot where it was, but at some point, if Alyx dies, instead of the usual G-Man "assignment: terminated"-message there's one saying "The Alyx Vance has died. Without her, we cannot persevere" or something to that effect.

Maybe he wants the combine destroyed and he had to make the earth meet with them in order to destroy them, because they are the plague of the multiverse or something, and he needs gordon because he is the best at what he does. He is a genius and he survived so far, and done a lot of damage to aliens. This is not a theory, this is what I understand from all HL dialogue till now. He even saved eli and alyx from black mesa. And maybe he put gordon in stasis not because he is a prisoner, but maybe to keep him young to destroy the combine, and thus, to save the universe.
