As most of you guys saw, in the e3 2003 video you see Dr. Vance talking and like petting an alien slave in his lab. What do you guys think of this? Think there'll alien slaves to fight with you? A way to charm them? (besides the pheromones for the new aliens)

Or maybe it's just a assistant named "Walter"

Anyway, we don't know why the vortignaughts are helping us now, but theory's have something to do with them not bieng slaves anymore (notice the band around thier neck in the first HL? It's not there now.)

About the Vortigaunts (Alien Slaves), I'm going to post what I said a long time ago in another thread and why they are on our side now:
Well, The Vortigaunts were called Alien "Slaves". What I think is after Gordon killed Nihilanth, their master, they were free and decided to ally with the humans. I don't think they ever really wanted to kill you in Half-Life, they were just forced too. I remember reading somewhere that those green ring things they wore around their necks were kind of like a shock collar. If they disobeyed, they would be he hurt or maybe killed.
Anyway, that's what I think.

No, I don't think so. Besides, they're a totally different type of alien. I don't think will see any Race-X aliens in Half Life 2 but who knows.

Voltigores were like a trained biological tank, controlled by the Race-X Shocktroopers, seemingly in the same way that they controlled the Pit Drones.

I hope Race-X recieve at least a passing mention...

Race X was the term used to group all the extra aliens in Opposing Force, as they didn't share any of the common physical features of Xen aliens. So aliens like the shocktrooper, the pitdrone etc. were Race X.

And Samon, I don't think the mods are very comfortable with people discussing the script on these forums.

The general consensus is that they were manufactured in the Xen factory you visit in the "Interloper" chapter, during Half-Life.

Do you think, RaceX is somehow connected with Xen? Cause the Geneworm reminds me of the Tentacles in the Blast-Pit Chapter very much... just a bigger, nastier one... with eyes ;-)

I want more tentacles in HL2!!! And more hot Gargantua-Action!!! Perhaps they are friendly now like the vortigaunts?

Just on the subject of mispellings I've seen Vortigaunts referred to as Voltigroins

And I still maintain that having a Gargantua lumber out of a portal and start thwacking a strider around would be the greatest gaming moment since HL's opening tram ride...

in blue shift, in one part, you see an alien being forced to fight you. Its kinda sad, actually. They start holding their heads, then bow over, and teleport. Then the next thing you know, they are next to you.

Anyway, once you killed the big boss guy, the one that controlled everyone, they where like: W00T! Lets go help the humans! Cause they saved us!

Kinda like colored folk in the civil war. Without their help, the north might never have won.

Random fact that you probably all know: In many places in the original HL source code, the Alien Slaves are referred to by their Vortigaunt name, and if you place a 'monster_vortigaunt' in a HL map, in the original game, a slave will appear at that point. Just so you know that the name was created way before HL2. Or something.

I think "Mr. Friendly" was supposed to be said in the same way that people call a grumpy person "Mr. Sunshine"... I doubt it was actually friendly at all.

I wouldn't mind meeting the Fast Walker (or whatever he was called), though. He was supposed to be friendly... like a sort of alien dog that followed you around.

Checking Mister Friendly in the model viewer for the original HL, it actually does have an attack (Flails its two tentacle arms).

I actually felt sorry for it, bacause its arse stuck up into the air

Using the model viewer. I dunno if you have to download it or not, but you can use it to look at HL models... even the ones that didn't make it into the final game. I dunno if it works in the Steam version, though...

Don't quote me on this, but I recall reading somewhere that "Mr. Friendly" was so called due to its habit of "hugging" as an attack; apparently, that particular unused critter was intended to consume corpses and puke up the result, possibly in some form of damaging, acidic mucus :x

I still want someone to remake HL as Valve would've wanted it. Although, admittedly, that'd be impossible without grilling Gabe Newell. And no, I don't mean in the sense of making nourishing Gabeburgers (TM).
