and of course they said it was good for gaming. what is the best pci card he could get

Erm are you certain it doesn't have an AGP slot? And if it doesn't, is the PCI slot PCI Express?

bullsh*t, my Dell came with a X300 :flame:
Then again maybe I got the wrong Dell.

I think that the GeForce FX 5600 (256mb) is the best PCI card on the market

They said it was good for gaming? lol i don't think its good for gaming unless it has an AGP or PCI-E slot. Dells suck IMO unless you get the most expensive XPS they have.

Not really, take a look at their site, you can make a decent computer or about $1500, and not get completly raped.

my mate bought a dell it has a chipset and no agp slot, or pci e slot on it, he got owned :P

i really dont get y these companys put crap intigrated chips to use the agp slot when they could just give us a an agp card

Uh, because not all users actually need graphics acceleration? And because any graphics card worth having would add at least $100 to the cost of the system? If you want a system to play games on, buy one with a AGP card. If you don't wanna play games, you don't wanna pay more money for a card, do you?

Intergrated graphics DON'T use the AGP slot, afaik. That's why it's called 'integrated'.

Yeh it uses system memory I think, well thats how it works on my dad's work PC. He has 768mb installed memory and it shows up when you goto the properties page on teh pc, it shows as 760mb, and right enough the onboard video is 8mb.

There are cheap AGP cards though. Anyway.

I think it's down to the fact it's cheaper to manufacture boards without AGP slots - and the fact that a lot of people don't want to use their puters for gaming.

Co-incidentlly the worst part of any prebuilt is the mobo :D

Well, that's a fairly good pc you got there.

And about the pci card, and the Dell being good for gaming. No. He got ripped. Being told that your pc is "Good for gaming" only to find out that it doesn't have either an agp port or a pci-e port IMHO is a marketing scam.
