FSAA is now fixed on all cards.

Gary McTaggart from Valve just said on the roundtable discution via IRC that FSAA is fixed on ALL cards...

Man this is some great news... i bought a fx 5900 last month ... now i'm happy.. and i don't care if hl2 is delayed.. :D have a nice day :)

"What about FSAA?"
<@valve|gary> Anti-aliased has been fixed on all cards.

<Whispers> Tredoslop... I've never heard of him either...

Hmmm, that's good news. But, you could be bsing us. So, I will wait to get confirmation on the matter.

I'm there, it's real. Glad they got it all sorted out!

Aww, thank you!

We'll have the full channel log up later, by the way.

Is chat already over? When you guys gonna post chat log? (What time I mean)

We're up to around the "E" names now, so it's far from over. I dunno how long after Munro will have the log up, shouldn't be too much after.

By the way, can I just connect to watch, without asking questions? Seems I can't, maybe because I don't have register username on IRC. Or to even connect I must be invited?

Well thats good news that the FSAA is fixed on all the cards. I was planning on getting an ATI card since they had it fixed on that but now that its fixed on all cards, what kind of video card should I get now? ATI or nVidia?

It depends. Wait to see what Nvidia and ATI spits out the next months. Maybe you could buy a Radeon 9900 Pro or a Geforce FX 1000. :cheese:

Oh well, the valve guys finished already. We got alot of information, quite a bit of it new. Logs should be up soon :)

I was kind of disappointed in the questions some people asked. Most had already been answered or were simply non-useful. But all in all it was a good read.

What's this chat your talking about. Did you have interviews on IRC? And what is the channel?

Well there is a sticky topic explaining it, basically Valve had a round table discussion where Mod makers came and asked questions regarding Source. It is over as of now, but there will be logs of it up soon.

Ohh...din't even know there WAS a chat...
*Watches this thread for the log*

In case you didn't know.... Gabe is not a programmer anymore. Or rather, he doesn't do the programming at Valve. Gary is one of the lead programmers.

When I e-mailed Gabe about DX9, he told me he had to talk to Gary. :p

Yes now i can put my friggin GeForce FX to work!

Ps. Does anyone know how they fixed it??

Actually, Gabe does code. He's just not the lead coder. Read up more on their development process CABAL: they aren't exactly organized in any strict way.

Gary was the guy who originally mailed a fan and mentioned the AA problem in the first place. He does higher level graphic engine stuff.

Assuming you have enough speed... Anything below 6x or 4xSS on Nvidia is just stinkin bad. Speeds with it at this eye saving setting is of course horrific. You loose around 60-70% performance.

Unless they didnt use the method they said was possible, they used pixel shaders to clamp texture coordinates(whatever THAT means). But if they used DX9 pixel shaders to do this, the performance loss on FX cards will be phenominal
