As most of us know, the Combine is, as of now, screwed. Their administrator has presumably been disintegrated. Their "base of operations" citadel is rubble. Plenty of their troops are rotting corpses and the Civil Protection Police Force are probably all dead from the explosion(not too important to the army, probably left behind). And, last but not least, their only ticket back to their home where their buddies can beat up the bullies who hurt them has been permanently closed.
Just want to know if anybody else thinks that the Combine in Episode 3 will be encountered MUCH, MUCH more than in the previous two, and that they will probably attack Gordon and other main characters any chance they can get. Like maybe when you+alyx leave white forest, advisors+combine elites arrive and attempt to kill off kleiner and magnusson. It would be cool to know that this time around, their are no "safe" moments like the red letter day level in half-life 2.

I mentioned something similar to this in another thread.

I agree, I think we will be facing predominantly Combine in the next episode, though hopefully some new variation thereof. Perhaps a poisonous Elite Zombine just to mix it up. The idea of an Aperature Science Military Android also comes to mind.

I think Gordon and Alyx will be the immediate threats, so they'll focus on us... particularly with their resources being as reduced as they are.

Don't forget that while city 17 is the capital of the combine presence on earth, their grip extends across the globe. They are in North America, Asia, Africa, etc. and hold at least 17 cities one would assume. So while crippled they are still very dangerous.

Well look at the global perspective. Dr. Breen's show has been off the air for a week and a half. No Citadel portals working, I think there's probably rebellions happening elsewhere. Who knows?

The Combine on Earth are fairly bruised, yeah. The Dark Fusion explosion was a very dangerous anomaly, and it managed to wipe out the teleportation grid and render every Citadel on Earth inactive. That means there are no Synth's being produced, and the Overwatch forces will be having trouble maintaining order. Word of mouth spreads quickly.

I think 17 was the only Citadel with Advisors, and it's not much fun for them being completely stranded and isolated on Earth. Whilst the Super Portal was shut down it probably won't be long before the Overwatch restore the Citadel portals though...it'll probably be too late to stop them, then, so I suspect part of Episode 3 will be shutting them out for good.

Valve had better allow us to see other citadels and cities in ep3, or I will be very dissapointed...

The combine attack looks a lot like WW2, they are the axis that attack with brute force and destructive power, but they are slowly getting crushed by large attacks or special operations (in WW2 for example destroying factorys, killing officers, destroying bridges).

Uh, why? They couldn't possibly do something so boring as showing us "another City" with "another Citadel."

As long as the Resistance satellite is in orbit, we won't see Combine portals. They're jacked and they know it.

Likely they sought the Borealis for its potential, possibly out of curiosity, and now seek it as a method of escape or a way to replenish their forces here on Earth.

In ep 3 I want to se that combine bombers that are on "7h war" table (in lab)...mmmm

Ah, poor Combine. No ASAT missiles for you!

how strong are they anyhow. They were at war with xen for 1000 years, yet they couldn't survive a dude with a crowbar? Their doomed.

I know theres probably other cities but what makes you guys think theres other citadels?? (not being a smartass im j/w)

I think calling the other towers in the other cities citadels is a bit misleading.

As has been said, the city 17 citadel is the real deal, teleporter reactor, home base of the advisor's, capital of Combine occupied Earth.

My guess, and to disclaim, it is just a guess, is that the Combine are completely cut off, and that the humans in the other cities are also in open revolt, with what degree's of success being anyones guess.

My guess is that the Combine elsewhere are fairly pinned otherwise the advisors would have ordered the area's around city 17 to be swamped with them.

So far the Combine forces in episode 2, if you think about it, have been fairly scattered and relatively light. We even found an advisor lightly defended to say the least.

Then theres the two advisor's who attacked alone at the end.

The Sector 17 Overwatch has been decimated. It's a wonder any troops at all found the Advisor in the barn; the escape pods in Episode 1 were just that – escape pods. It'd be difficult to track them all down in the Outland, especially when they are so scattered. Highly vulnerable, and a likely target for Vortigaunt's.

The two Advisors at the end seemed pretty impetuous and desperate after the portal closing.

I figured they had some sort of beacon.

I can imagine a more fast-paced and unpredictable style of game in ep3 (if that's in some way possible). The combine know that you're trying to wipe them out for good so they will throw everything they've got left at Gordon and Alyx. I'm hoping for an epic final battle.

Rebel tanks! :D

Considering even Nova Prospekt had a teleport rig, and that Kleiner referred to it as the Citadel network, there's likely more than one out there.

It could be that there is one Citidel per planet, and he means that ours was cut off from the other planets, or something. I don't really know tbh, just an idea.

There's more than one Citadel on Earth; they were forced through during the Portal Storms, and one wouldn't do the trick.

I have a feeling there will be a huge twist in Episode 3...

Maybe the Vortiguants will turn against us?
