Being a child deprived of broadband I rarely get a chance to play anyone at a PC game, and my favourite genres are FPS and RTS :(. I was thrilled to go to a gaming café in Cork with two of my friends (from here on they shall be refered to as A and B). Both are experienced RTS players and A is OK at FPSs.

First off we played Command & Conquer Generals: Zero Hour. We all owned Generals, sadly, I had only played Zero Hour once. I chose the GLA stealth general. A and B picked the USA Laser General and USA Super Weapons General IIRC. I did OK but B was far better than both of us. My base had so many stinger sites that it was pretty much imune to air assaults (neither of them used auroras, I don't know if they had access to them). But B built about 10 particle cannons. I managed to destroy about five of them using my two scud storms and a rebel ambush but he rebuilt and I was screwed. He ripped apart my base with the cannons and in the end all I had left was a Jarmen Kell who I tryed to get to steal a dozer. He was unfortunatly killed though I'm not sure what by. A was already destroyed at this point so the game was over.

We had a game of Unreal Tournament next, which B had never played. We played two assaults. I was on one team, A and B were on the other. Eveyone else was bots. I owned both of them. I din't manage to succesfully defend either time but I beat both assaults in under 2 minutes :D

We then decided to play Warcraft 3:Frozen Throne. I was the only one of the three of us who had played it (I own it) but another guy joined us aswell. His username was MALEK and he claimed to be the Cork champion at Tekken. Anyway MALEK and I were all Undead, A was human, B was Wood Elf. I managed to defeat A but MALEK shortly overran me and B with a stratagy he then shared with me.

MALEK then set up an Unreal Tournament game and we all played. Last Man Standing. Both MALEK and I were the 2 last on each one. I don't know the name of the first map but he beat me with 9 lives left in it and then in Hyperblast I beat him with 5 left, so I suppose he won by a 4 lives margin over all :(

We then left and had lunch at McDonalds and B had to go home. A and I decided to go back in for another hour. We played Battlefield 2 which to my horror I discovered that the names Rim-Fire, RimFire, Rimfire and Rim--Fire were all taken. I eventualy settled for Rimre and he Jacxel and joined the same game. As an assault I did OK, though I got killed more than killed, but it was my first time. I managed to take 2 or 3 flags. Everytime I attempted to be an anti-tank all enemy vehicles suddenly seemed to disapear. Every time I tryed to be a medic I died within 5 seconds. I did quite well with my one venture as a sniper while defending a flag I outsnipered 2 people and took out 2 other enemies before I was killed. About 7 seconds before the match ended the server made me swap teams, to the losing side:angry:

We then played HL2:DM for a while before we got picked up which was surprisingly easy. I killed far more people than got killed. Maybe I just got lucky. I did manage to kill 2 properly armed people in a row with just a pistol.

It was probably the most fun I've had in ages. :D

original UT is fantastic. <3 hyperblast.

You lead a sad, protected life.

Then again, the happiest day of my life was like, a week ago, when I realized I had a huge chance with the girl of my dreams. Oh well.

Edit - And to stay on topic, gaming is fun, but only with friends. Like, me and my brothers and my sis used to stay up till the waning hours of dusk playing Super Smash Bros (the original). (Mario + Fox) > (Pikachu + Yoshi) I loved those days.

I actualy got sad when I got a 'Wicked Sick' in 2K4 because it just seemed they were trying to appeal to the skater-culture and sound cool. But I totaly owned in that Goliath.

God damn't what's with the gay green text? Are you trying to get attention or be "different" or something?

Hmm, Pessy was unbanned when? :D Welcome back -- (as if you were ever gone... :O).

Christ, I just felt like it. Angry doesn't get this shit except the odd coment here and there.

Yeah, and Tr0n's back too... When did this happen?

OT, my favorite multiplayer goodness has to be late nights with Mario Kart 64. Fun, it was :yoda: Oh, and I had some good times with Hunter: The Reckoning (I think) on X-Box.

Ahhh a Generals ZH fan, me too sadly (i like it ok?). How experienced are you guys? By the way, your stinger sites are useless against auroras, they are supersonic on their 'to' voyage, only after the damage is done can you stop them. I think avengers can slow them down but you were GLA Stealth. Hope you used GPS scrambler and camo for all your base defences.

Btw SW general and Laser general need so much power for particle cannons and laser tanks/turrents, you should have rebel ambushed and scud stormed their powerplants to take everything offline then did a sneak attack or scorpion/ marauder rush! Nice try with the Jarmen Kell though. And you are lucky your mate didn't build any aurora alphas with the SW general (if anyone has seen them, you'll get what i mean!)

I tryed to take out his powerplants with ambushes but he had defences everywhere and they got killed before they could do any damage (stupid stealth detectors :(). Shortly after my first scud launch I had no hope of using scuds again. He took out my scud storms with particle cannons and suppresed any further efforts with further particle cannons. If I tryed to use vehicles he had EMP pariots EVERYWHERE and he particle cannoned my infantry! A bit f*cking extreme!

Harsh, your first scud should have been on the power then rush though. Base defences can't stop a scud storm! EMP patriots are evil things, you had little chance vs them indeed. What stealth detectors was he using? If there were drones you should have built quad cannons and put way points around your base and shot them down. If you play again, the best tactic to use with stealth gen is to sneak a worker someone on the map near an enemy base and build a tunnel network and camoflage it. Then keep sending units through it from this side slowly breaking down defences (he can't attack while you attack him). Then do a main attack. It's even better with several tunnel networks! So yeah hide cloaked stuff everywhere next time you go :) Sounds like great fun.

(We must play online then too, i'm usually Chinese Nuke General, expensive but packs a punch!)

Oh well, I didn't have much of a clue what I was doing anyway. Don't EMP patriots detect stealthed units? If it wasn't them I don't know what he was using :O. Oh and BTW, I don't own ZH and have a very slow connection. The only way we'll play is if we organise it around my next trip to that place.

No Counter Strike?

CS is only fun LAN :)
Oh man, you should see my and my cousins when we go pubbing together at our LAN parties... Screaming as loud as we can (want), running around the room throwing random junk at the wall in a fury every time we die, and then ghosting like hell

I think a few of the people there were playing CS:S over LAN. Though they may just have been playing seporate internet games.

Yeah they do, but i thought you meant over the entire map, because using the GPS scrambler means you can cloak mobile units out in the field from particle cannons. And the EMP patriots don't detect stealth if the power is out of course! (otherwise they'll shoot at any enemy unit). Tbh stealth is hard to play. Chinese tank Gen or GLA Toxin are easier. Cheap tanks = pump out 20 mobile defensive units with auto-loader upgrade = win!

Give us a message on msn next time you go and we'll see if we can sort some times out.

Maybe. I chose stealth because I had a plan I though might work involving ambushes and suicide bombers. Unfortunatly I ended up with a smouldering pile of scorched earth from a base. Maybe next time if I can build faster (I'm not too good at micro-managing which often means I'm slow to build a base) I can keep him busy with frontal attacks which will also help get my general rank up. Methinks terrorists V EMP patriots...

Pretty good idea you had there considering your not the micro-management king. Thats a great tactic for early rushes. Build a few suicide bombers and put them in 2/3 technicals and rush EMP patriots and evacuate the vehicle. The missiles are shit against infantry and 2 suicides can take down a turrent, opening a frontal attack for you. If you can manage that quick enough you'll be laughing. Good luck for next time. Don't underestimate the power of rocket buggies with rocket upgrade.

Not sure what you think Rim, but i think General powers ruin the game, artillerying base defences or carpet bombing or doing a Mother of all bombs on a base can leave a base in ruins that can be pushed over with a few overlords. SW's are ok i think, but otherwise, Gen powers result in tactical players losing out.

Super weapons annoy me in general but I like some of them. Rebel ambush I like and the passive ones. The plane ones annoy me but I hate uncounterable attacks.

Hurray! I would like to announce I just got C&C: The First Decade and this seemed like a good place to do it!

LAN place in Limerick is crap - play mostly Call Of Duty...
Other games are only installed on a few computers :(

I bought C&C: The First Decade before one week - it's best game collection with best strategy games EVER!
Who is your favourite general from C&C: Generals Zero Hour? I like Malcolm Granger (USAF - Air Force).

I haven't played ZO that much. The times I have played I've used Prince Kasade (or something similar) who is GLA Stealth. If all goes well I'll be playing Hectic Glenn tomorrow.

GOING TONIGHT!!!!

Hopefully get something better than Call Of Duty though. i suck at it soooo bad!

Wouldnt mind Generals (though out of practice since disk got scratched to ****), FEAR, QUAKE4 or something like that.
How hard is it to install games on every computer really

Riomhaire has gone back, and he's playing now, and i tried to get a game of ZH with him and his buddies but he conviently got patch update problems, PUSSYS! Just scared of my overlord tank rushes. They got so scared they are all playing solitaire instead now.

Like I said, one of the only fun LAN games is Counter Strike.
I hope you're kidding :|

There are SO many other games in just the FPS genre that are fun at LANs. Hell, almost any game can be fun as hell when you're playing in the same room.

The FPS games that come to mind are ones that require tactics and teamwork to succeed.

At the one I'm going to Thursday-Friday we are going to play Operation Flashpoint :D

We also used to play SWAT 4, that was awesome too.

BF2 would be awesome in a lan - imagine having a full squad working as one in the one room
*drools

At the local lan centre we sometimes play HL2DM, and due to my long time gaming on HL2CTF, I pwn all. Literally.

Well, some friends of mine and I still hook up for some Starcraft LAN. Amazing that a nine year old game is still so much fun.

Ahhh... ZH. It's all about the Infantry General/Airforce General. Grab a chopper, load it up with infantry (2 minigunners and the rest rocket guys), slap on a battle bunker and finish it in less than five minutes.

One of these days I really must use a stratergy that doesnt involve rushing tactics...

I had 8 Auroras and an armada of tanks ready to roll over an enemy when the game ended because of some sort of stupid ****ing error.
