Funniest Half-Life franchise moments

Personally, I think I'd have to go with the scripted sequence near the end of Nova Prospekt in which the Antlion Guard bursts through the double doors in pursuit of the terrified Overwatch troops. It seems to be part of a unique strand of dark humour in the series in which humans (or humanoids) engage in comically mismatched battles with giant beasts. Interestingly, whereas the victims of theses encounters are nearly always Combine in Half-Life 2, they are usually scientists or HECU troops in the original game--think of the Barney fruitlessly firing at the tentancle in Blast Pit, or the squadies getting squashed by the Garg in Power Up.

There's also a lot of other darkly funny material that doesn't fall into that category. The zombies hanging out in the hospital lonuge in Ep. 1 was good for a chuckle, and Kleiner's broadcast was a masterpiece of (unintended) mordancy.

I think that's still Route Kanal, it's very near the place you find the airboat. It's impossible to miss, just play that part again.

Fine, its the only place you see a guy resisting a headcrab attack...Ive noticed if you shoot the headcrab, the guy is flung to the side and the headcrab is catapulted pretty high into the sky...

The funniest scene, imo, is in Op4 seeing Barney grab onto that electrified fence...

I loled hard when Alyx said something like "I'll do the talking Gordon; we may need her to get out of here." to Gordon about Mossman. Easily the best moment.

Are you shitting me? I never actually died with any rebels around in HL2 now I think about it. If your serious, valve humour +11

Yea most of the time when I die the rebels are too busy fighting to comment.
 
One of the most funniest moment in the Half-Life franchise for me was after Dog manages to pull you out of the debris, Alyx says "I was so worried..." then she shy's away, very embarassed. There's some hilarity thar!

In HL1, the scientist when getting gulped by the Barnacle's, "I...I can't hold on...much longer!"
 
Can't really recall anything in HL2 which made me laugh...

No, that's wrong. The entire sequence in Red Letter Day where Lamarr ruins the teleport made me cackle like a madman.

Also, zombies are funny. You're supposed to pity them, but they're funny.

That scene where the vortigaunts were talking in Vortilanguage and mention that they talk normally in front of those whose "vortal inputs are impaired", unless they wish to say unflattering things about you... and then go right back to talking as they were. :D

Now, HL1. That was the paragon of dark humour. Watching that scientist crush the headcrab under a file cabinet, and then do a little dance, only to get taken from behind by another headcrab... classic.

"We're all starving and Kleiner's headcrab is probably getting grade-A head!"

Lowlife in Ep 1, when you turn away from Aylx in the darkness she makes zombie noises. When you turn round she giggles and says "Gotcha!" Fantastic :D
 
It's funny because sometimes the scienists say hello as they fall to their deaths.

:D I remember I jumped on top of it once, and there is a split second when it hits the ground and it doesn't crush them right away and the scientist said "Hello there" and then *crush*
 
I think it was the very first level in HL2 where a metrocop knocks a can of pop off the rim of a waste basket with his stunstick. Without missing a beat he demands you, "pick that up," and chuckles when you comply.

That is cool. Never noticed it myself. I wonder if it's just something the rebel AI causes them to do--as when they pick up other useful items like weapons or medkits.

Also, zombies are funny. You're supposed to pity them, but they're funny.

Too true. They're funny and pathetic, which somehow makes them even funnier. Any time that zombies are depicted vainly pounding on glass to get at you is entertaining and bizarrely endearing in a Dawn of the Dead kinda way.

Call me mean, but I sat there for a good 3 minutes laughing at her when the Stalker pod crushed Alyx.

I also laughed when the combine threw a grenade vertically (or rebounded). Seconds later you see 3 metro cops pop over their barricades.

I love the lammarr scene in Red Letter the most.
 
After re-viewing the rather excellent "Goose Goose Productions" critique of Ep. 1 on Google Video, I'm reminded that the scene in the hospital with random zombie limbs flying by the doorway should also be on the list.

"They've been fillingthe tunnel with manhacks, so we have to move fast"
*looks through slot in door, manhack sounds*
"OH SHIT!"(he says it in a high-pitched voice, I saw that and loled)
it was also funny how he fights with a lead pipe, Gordon wannabe =P

Another awesome part, as many mentioned, was DEFINITELY the Security guard and the Barnacle,

But one I really liked, was the final speech in HL2.
"Alyx my dear, you have your mother's eyes, but your father's ill temper."
"You haven't seen a bit of it yet."
"Really, well, we'll see how well it serves you on the far side of a combine portal."
I love Dr. Breen's cynical jokes =]
