so I just installed my new 8800GT after I exchanged another one because I thought it was faulty I had the same problems again after I put it in...I almost cried I was so pissed,so I Google around"crash with 8800GT and Crysis." turns out that many fans are running wayyyyy to slow even under load thye do not run faster. The funny thing is the first thing I noticed when I turned on the PC how quiet the PC now was.....so anyway I downloaded Rivatuner and took the fan speed up a notch no crashes so far and Crysis runs like a dream I even enabled the DX10 effects.

my system

AMD64 3700
3gigs of cheap ram
BFG 8800GT OC

So the cooling is insufficient, to be expected given all other 8800s are duel slot cards with big ass fans.

I guess you could slap a heat pipe on it to cure the problem and reduce noise output further.

High end video, crap ram, crap CPU. Good work there. j/k What did people expect from a single slot solution anyway? Miracle heat dissipation? Then you have the other problem with the 8800GT reference design; cheap 2 phase power.

..wrong..

Well, your right about the "miracle" thing but,
the 8800GT has a smaller die so it produces less heat in the first place.
There might be vent issue with the new GT but for a different reason.

Yes less heat production but that's countered by the fact the reference cards are single slot. A decent cooler is going to make a lot more difference than a smaller manufacturing process. Although good cooling and a smaller manufacturing process is win as can be seen with Intel's Penryn chips.

Waaaaiiiiiit a minute!

So is this a problem with all 8800GTs? I just ordered a eVGA E-GEFORCE 8800GT 512M Superclocked DDR3 PCI-E, so are you saying I should grab that program and bump up my fan speed if I'm going to be running Crysis (which i am)?

once you put your fan in see how loud it is,if stays quiet even during crysis you should bump up the fan speed.
