g card

:dozey: Man...

1. there's so many other factors such as how much ram you have and your CPU etc etc.

2. Half-Life 2 isn't even out, except for beta... so how should we be positive?
3. I believe you CAN run everything on high(highest possible) but I don't think you'd be happy with the framerates.

Like Ailevation said, GFX isn't everything you need, you need memory, hdd space, and cpu to back it up.

With a 5700 and decent other hardware (2 to 2.5 ghz cpu, 512 ram) you should be able to play with medium to high settings. I'd say probably Medium with an acceptable framerate at 800x600 - maybe 1024x768. Don't quote me on that, just my estimation, I've never played the game.

9800pro 128... or the 6800 ultra... i highly recommend the 6800 ultra as it wont crap out on you...

Depends on his cpu, if its not generally all that fast, he could bottleneck with the 6800 Ultra....he should look into the 9800 series and x800 series....nvidia's new series is the only thing to look at.

Personally, I don't trust Nvidia. Especially not after their 3DMark'02 "thing" with artificially increased scores. :dozey: But that's just my opinion.

Also, Gabe/other Valve employee said that as long as you have at least 512MB of fast RAM, a Radeon 9700 or equivalent and at least 1.5GHz, you can play with full settings at 1024*768*32. Processor increases after 1.5GHz yield "negligible performance increases," apparently.

hmph... pfft... meh... jsut chunk your cpu and put down 3grand for a bleeding edge new one

Not everyone can afford that.

And we just don't know, please don't post threads like this, we can't really give you any proper information.

yes we could... if he got belarc(500kb) its a lil program it will list all your hardware in simple english...... slot A0 - 256 ram installed slot A1 - empty

The mod probably ment we cant possibly know if any graphics card will play HL2 on high settings.

*Sigh* Please, read the "Info from Valve ONLY" thread. Here's a quote:

"Hi,

Sorry for the delayed reply.

Currently the minimum system requirement for HL2 are looking to be: 1Ghz
Proc, 256RAM, Dx7 level GPU.

Regarding your specific question: "Will for example a 2400+ with 512MB &
Radeon 9800pro be able to run the game @ 1024*768*32 with all detail up
highest?" The answer is yes."

Which means: If you've got those specs, you can run the game at full detail.

Maybe you should buy one of them, since nvidia FX cards are pretty crappy at almost everything.

BadgerEDIT: please don't leak talk mate :)

tbh, all those things can change, so I would wait until it's out before buying :)

Yeah and the specs for the game i've been playing for 1.5yrs are bullshit..i dont see why Valve are 100% right.

Valve is right because they made the game and the engine.

The devs that made the game i play made the game, dont contradict yourself. My point is, devs are'nt always right and ill be damned if HL2 can run on high texture settings with 256mb ram...I could have a 6800ultra, a 3400+ AMD64 FX53 and the game would be unbearable with 256mb ram on high settings.
