He greets you at the beginning of the game. He checks your progress throughout. He never interferes directly with you, although he guides your actions. He speaks to you at the end. He is all powerful and omnipotent.

Makes sense to me. Every time VALVe rolls out a new HL game, they got good old Gabe to greet you at the beginning and the end.

It's kind of like an author I read, Clive Cussler, he's like another Tom Clancy. Anyway, he puts himself in every book with the name Dad, he's a mysterious character, and it's only clues that give it away.

I dont think Gabe's body would fit in the G Man's suit :upstare:

This has been suggested before…
Might be useful for you to search for those posts.

Gman = OG Readmore

At least its not another GMan = Gordon thread!

Has anybody thought that someone could of named him Gman and not meant anything by it?
Because Gman meant something, or nothing at all.
Because guybrush from monkey island was named when they were saving him as "The guy" and because he was a "brush" they combined those two to get guybrush.

Just could be something similar to that, don't know what though.

Maybe valve just liked seeing all of the conspiricies unfold about the "Gman" so they kept the name and adapted the story to fit in with the name "Gman"

Grrr...G-man is only his codename, he isn't even acknowledged as G-man in game, it is just his model name. I doubt his real name would have the obvious (and stupid) connection.

In the G-Man's stunted speech: "You can't...stop me...Gordon.

Can't stop me...because I'm the Gingerbread Man"

Ha ha… Maybe he is like rumplestiltskin … if we knew his real name he would be powerless… ;)

We do not know who the G-Man is; and we won't, at least until Half-Life 3. Various theories include him symbolizing Gabe Newell, him being Gordon from the future, him being the "Government Man", or an emissary from an alien civilization, or a mercenary free agent who uses various humans to complete tasks for him.

We don't know, and we've speculated it from pretty much every angle. Stop making G-man threads. If you must, search thoroughly first to make sure your theory hasn't already been proposed and discussed.

Well, Ennui, YOU may have read theories about the G-Man, but to anyone new to the forums, these theories are interesting and get the mind thinking. If you do not wish to read G-Man theories, don't click on the little links on the Rumors And Speculation Forum titled "GMAN THEORY"... Knowledge is the greatest force on the planet, and stopping the process is just plain ignorant.

Gman = Government Man - Case Closed
Though Gman does not stand for that.(Though it does mean somewhat that)
Gman is a word ^_^

Plus TAKE A LOOK AT THEM.
Do they look alike?

well when my mates hl crashed at the end ( hl1)

the error was that it wouldnt open glass-man.mdl or somink like that :/

Government Man? I think Gman doesn't really mean anything - he's just some kind of ambassador from a crazy world of suitcases and monotone voices. But he is definitely NOT Gabe Newell. Find a picture of Gabe, you'll know what I mean. They're like 2 opposites.

I agree with you but what I think really bothers some people is how unscientific our approach to speculation is here. They are forgetting that this is the RUMORS AND SPECULATION forum… In other words... Everybody here is full of sh*t, our theories (all of them) are full of sh*t and that’s not a problem because were just doing it for fun. As long as nobody makes the claim that they’re not full of sh*t everything should be cool.

On the alternative side Ennui’s main point is thus:

“If you must, search thoroughly first to make sure your theory hasn't already been proposed and discussed.”

Which it has. The golden rule… use an old thread whenever possible. Avoid making new ones.

It is his unspoken codename, the name assigned to the model by Valve, because he looks like a G-man (Government Man).

It's a word for the player to know him by, it's better than calling him "The thin guy with the pale skin in the blue suit with the stripy tie, ", but at no point in the game is he refered to as the G-man.
So I suggest Valve have something smarter lined up than a crazy play on words like this.

And besides, since you've mentioned it, you've nullified that it can be true.
Valve aren't going to make the story follow the way 100s of HL2 fans have been discussing. No they want to suprise us - Knock our socks off.

maybe it is gabe newell, except he doesn't look like him

maybe it's some valve inside joke

Just thinking, but Gabe Newell is already a character in the Half-Life universe, so the G-Man can't be him.

Don't believe me? Play "Office Complex" again. Ha :p

That is funny. Are you sure?

Glass man would be a good name for him.....i mean he never fights and he says hes always watching you, like at the end he slowly appears. See through? Hmmmm kinda mysterious name, dont you think?

Gazelle Man. Gorbachov man. Goat man.

Quite a few words begin with G. Explore the endless possibilities.

I have a reason for saying that you know...
