i was recently playing star control 2 (oldest game ever, i know) and i found out how amazingly fun and time consuming it was/is. anyway, a little into the game and i encounter an alien species called the melnorme, so this little bubble/thing starts talking to me and i think to myself

"i've heard this voice before"

"who is that?"

and then like a howitzer aimed at my testicles i suddenly had a revelation. the person who voices the g-man had voiced this character/thing from this ancient game! all of the little speech deviences are there, the pausing before words, careful pronounciation, the lisp even! its quite amazing to say the least. if any of you want to play it to find out its available to download as freeware now... so knock yourselves out...

just needed to say that.

star control (1) was an awesome game at the time. It's terribly dated now however, and I didn't find the sequal much fun.

well, er. it sounds just like him. the voice actors sound so similar, aside from the fact that star control 2 was created before half-life... hmm, its just really weird, i'll see if i can get a .wav of his speech. then you'll see ;)

Is the same person that done they voice for the G-Man in the first Half-Life doing the voice for Half-Life 2?

aha! sorry for resucitating this little thread but i got some some audio files up on the web for you kind folks to prove to you what i'm talking about! :D

http://neonspyder.fateback.com/ <-- list of files for your perusal

now, they are in .ogg 'cause its an old game... at least thats what i assume... they work in winamp and media player 9... heck, since they're such old files they'll prolly work in anything.

even if it isn't the g-man, or whoever voice acts him... you just have to listen for yourself.

p.s. he sounds spooky when he laughs

Then again, Barney doesn't sound like the G-Man yet its the same voice actor...So it could be the same guy just not listed. Was the voice a major part of the game or just an extra thing thrown in to up the story a bit?

well, its such a large game, and i'm only partly through it, but they he seems to have a lead role (top 5 aliens) out of like, 100

Edit: everyone has voice. its weird... considering its such an old game.. but everyone you encounter has tons and tons of speech. its... weird for such an old game (star control 2/Urquan masters)

Theres this guy at the beginning of freelancer that talks like the Gman (The guy who is talking to Juni)

"I'll leave this matter in your..... capable hands-s-s"

its.. its just so similar... the lisp, the pronounciation, the awkward pauses... everything... what are the odds they'd sound so similar?... unless... heheh, the g-man is imitating this guy? :p

I must admit it gets annoying to hear a voice actor in more than one production.

Its not the same actor but it does sound like him...
