G-Man set us up the bomb? ** HL, BS, OP4 SPOILERS INSIDE **

** HL, BS, OP4 SPOILERS IN THIS THREAD **

The G-Man, the biggest enigma of the Half-Life series.. Nobody knows anything about him, nobody knows who he is or what he does.

I've just completed Half-Life, Opposing Force and BlueShift to refesh my memory on everything that happened during those three titles. The G-Man is such an interesting character to observe, the things he did and the things he said in each game ( although he wasen't really in BlueShift much ) must all come to a giant conclusion yet there are so many gaps none of us can work out what it is.

As I approached the end of Opposing Force I had to disable a nuclear bomb that the Black Ops were trying to activate. By doing so I was let into another part of the level where I was forced to watch the G-Man re-activate it. ( note: I used cheats to activate noclip to get a clearer screenshot ).

On another note, when the G-Man talks to Shepherd he says something along the lines of "People who can survive against all odds intrigue me, they remind me of myself." which made me think, once again that he could of been Freeman.. although the odds of him being Freeman are about 1 to 999,999,999,999,999,999,etc. Obviously he's not Freeman, plus Freeman wouldn't be so evil ( ;( ) but it's all interesting none the less.

Interesting...hmmm...ive never played blue shift or opposing force, when/where/who are they set?

Both during black mesa at black mesa. In OP4 u are one of the Military grunts, In blue shif you are barney the security guard.

They're set the same time Freemans escaping from Black Mesa. In Opposing Force you actually go back to some of the places you were at with Freeman ( like the Dam ).

In Opposing Force you also end up in a room with Freeman which is an interesting turn around. Both games are very well done and add more to the storyline.

With Opposing Force you play a marine, Shepherd.
With BlueShift you play Barney, one of the security guards.

Ah, blueshift is fun, gotta love bein a security gaurd

EDIT: THat fat gaurd pissed me off in both games, I had to shoot him in the face before his annoying voice could creep into my head cause it made me want to cut my face off

Neat, when ure a grunt arent you trying to kill gordon?

the gman is always doing something fishy. Maybe he was just testing you out to see if you could stop it.

That was the original plan, and the first 5 minutes of the game, then it turns into "shit... forget freeman, I'm getting the hell out of here"

Fuzzy - Yes. You may remember the message in Half-Life where as Freeman you hear the radio say "Forget about freeman, we're pulling out, we're going to airstrike the area... etc. etc". Well, in Opposing Force you're stood next to the marine who says that live :)

Thats mad, i love it when things connect like that. Are they available over steam?

Half-Life : You goto work, accident happens, have to escape Black Mesa.

BlueShift : You goto work, accident happens while you're in a lift, have to escape Black Mesa.

Opposing Force : You're sent in on planes with other marines, aliens attack you and your plane crashes. About 1/4 of the way into Opposing Force is about 1/2 of Half-Life. About 1/2 of Opposing Force is 3/4 of Half-Life and by the time you finish Opposing Force, Freeman has long gone. ( with the Gman )

Fuzzy - Dunno but I'd seriously suggest going to a shop and buying them asap then completing them before Half-Life2 comes out.

BlueShift is only about 2-4 hours of gameplay and Opposing Force, although much longer than BlueShift is much shorter than Half-Life.

he setup the nuke that destoyed everything that was black mesa

exept a heap of scientist, gordan, a military man, and a security gaurd

whats up with gman, why is he uh, green? or are my eyes messed up?

Lighting in the area, was an underground carpark.

Ugh, now Blue Shift or whatever the hell mod is kind of ruined for me assuming that's some big plot thing. :/

What spoilers? I've talked about the Opposing Force intro and one 10 second scene in the game? ;(

You'll live... you should expect some original game spoilers while sitting in a forum filled with people drooling over HL2

But yeah, you'll still get enjoyment form playing the game so go for it my omlette freind

I don't think ill be visiting the forums while i play hl2, lest i am having some trouble getting past something.

Too likely ill see a post "Why does the G-man do xyz?"
or hl2 ending!

[Edit] Wait, just rememberd :'( nevermind. Answerd my own question.

A few years ago, I beat Opposing Forces (good game), Blue Shift, and Half-Life, and I can honestly say that I've never played expansions that fit in with the story so perfectly. It's really cool fighting against the Marines in HL, and it's almost even cooler when you ARE a Marine in Opposing Force. It's that sort of stuff that I love. Kudos to Valve (obviously) and Gearbox for such great games.

Just wanted to put that out there, considering this thread is ABOUT those games.

gotta love the Gman. I think half life is just the best game evar. The way they connect things, these subtle hints at other points in another game, its just a masterpiece how they did it. I'm sure they'll do stuff like that in HL2. and they better have expansions. Maybe not OpFor since its been done, but yeah. some cool expansions like that. Strider-mod :p

nah, Dr. Kleiner mod.
you run around hiding. When you get a chance, you ramble off some super string theory or invent something :D

haha, that would own. your primary weapon could be "whine", secondary "bore", and you could get the all powerful "I'm not going one step further!" bomb.

Here's an interesting tip. For those who have the original Half-Life, the first time you see the G-man talking to the scientist in 'Black Mesa' before the accident, turn on no-clip. Then try to see what's inside his briefcase. I heard there's some intriguing thing, but I forgot what.

(If this is old stuff, forgive me.)

Javert's thing only works on the old Half-Life models not the definition pack ones.

all it is is a dumb picture of the gman in the briefcase, its nothing spectacular. i was let down after i noclipped into his briefcase :(

i think that story just cat go wrong :) im dying to find out what the deal is

adn please tell us what you can see? because ive got the HD pack installed atm :(

opposing force was fun, borrowed it from a friend before, and deleted it :/
trying to get it off steam again because it says i am entitled to it, but doesn't seem to be working...

ferd, flyingdebris just said, it's a picture of the g-man

Its a picture of the g-man like id picture a pistol and some weirdo machine. (maybe a genrator that makes him invurnerable)

.5c0ut-WHoR3. - More like the machine that allows him to control teleportation.

yea i completed BS in a day, Opposing force in a day and hl in 2days! they were SO SO fun

I finally got OpFor to work from steam. Just had to keep trying and put up with a few hangs restarts. STill seems a bit jerky for some reason thogh.
