For the people who allready have the file downlaoded I found a way to play the file at a smoother frame rate.

You download the RAD video tools from here:

http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm

You install them, open the folder and click on radvideo.exe
You point it to the movie file which is located here:
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamCache\"your email"\half-life 2 movies\media\movies

And then you choose advanced play, change the blitting style to
"Direct draw to primary surface..." click on make exe and compile. Now go back into your movies folder and view the new compiled video.

Guaranteed it will play smoother !

Please comment on this to bump the thread so other people can see it too, Thank you !

I know, i opened it the first time and the sound was not even synchronised.

i wish they turned aa on, then it would have been a little more...well, better, not that it wasnt already godly

when people play the game they wont have aa turned on, trust me

It works for me doing your method if i play the video, but if i make an exe with the new settings, it flickers and the picture breaks up :/

does this also work with the regular HL2 25min video? I know someone who has probs running it on a Dell around 1GHz machine, very choppy, and not fun to watch

I have a 1ghz Dell, runs perfectly smooth. Maybe he needs more ran, I got 384 mb.

There will be a utility to optimize your game with HL2. It should turn AA on if you have a high end card. Otherwise you can do it yourself and loose a few FPS.

If you select for the entire file to be preloaded into memoy before playing it will play moohe as well.

there is no media/movies in that directory, just a huge gcache. Maybe I'm not done downloading yet?

Ok, so whats your PC specs already? Also your monitor must have set you back quite a bit unless its under 17 inch.

Sounds like a 22-24" CRT to me to run at that resolution, or a very high quality 21".

probably not, just has to read everything with a microscope.

i'm no big fan of AA or AF.

Thanks, that really made it play smoother.
I wonder why they didnt use this encoding option in the beginning?

Yes very well done, BW MASTER, the video is pretty much watchable now on my paltry P3 666.

you can also just click the play button, and then you dont need to recompile it into a second exe :)

I found that just going to the advanced play options and switching it to play as an overlay cleared up all my problems (you might want to set it to save to memory first as well). As an overlay the movies run perfectly smooth on my low end computer (a P3 550 with a 32mb vid card).

wow It ran so much smoother, the docks video looked so much nicer. I can't wait to see this game in action.
