Being at the top of the thread list doesn't mean much in a forum section that is very inactive. Look at the last post date.

Generally, threads are considered 'old' if they haven't received a reply in over a month. It's an indication that the discussion has died out. Bumping the thread should be reserved for when you have a significant contribution to make to the thread, such as new information. Adding a reply that is essentially saying "Cool." doesn't really add any value to the thread, so it's best kept to yourself so we don't have to deal with old threads being dragged up for no reason.

Note, I don't agree with anyone calling you "stupid", and I am not saying that this is a big deal. I'm simply explaining the logic behind why thread bumps should be avoided. You missed your chance to add your reply to the topic when it was new. It's not a big deal that you couldn't post "this is cool".
It could be seen as post count whoring if everyone could just reply to old threads just to say "cool".
