IGN is reporting that Valve's Gabe Newell is going to be part of a keynote discussion, along with film and television director and producer J.J. Abrams, at this year's DICE summit entitled "Storytelling Across Platforms: Who Benefits Most, the Audience or the Player?".
The discussion is about the convergence of film and video game entertainment and what it means for consumers. Multimedia entertainment is a big topic for Valve who have released many comics and short films to tie into their video game worlds. Let's also not forget about the planned Source-powered film DEEP whose digital sets Brown Bag Films hope to release as playable levels on Steam. It's evident that Valve hope to see this crossing over of media forms continue as time goes on.
Gabe Newell will also give a keynote presentation called "A View on Next Steps" on Thursday, February 7th. The official press release from the AIAS says he will "focus on where the industry is heading, the advances Valve is making with Steam and Big Picture to prepare for that future, and more." Furthermore, Gabe will be honored at the Annual D.I.C.E. Awards as the 2013 AIAS Hall of Fame inductee.
