[br]A young gamer who is deaf went to Valve for a tour.? Gabe took the time to sit down with them.? Watch the videos and be amazed.? At one point they tell Gabe that he should add a feature into gaming so that deaf users could tell others as they are playing.? The main thing you get from these videos is Valve cares about the gamer and the community.[br]

I was hoping to click this and see videos of gabe dancing, but this is rather nice as well.

So they're suggesting a rerun of HL2 thats shown a 4 o clock in the morning with a dude in a blue box explaining everything in sign? :p

Looks kinda awkward to see him having to wait for the interpreter, also it dulls the lecture.

Is this the new Steam in-game layout? It looks like you can see the storefront in the game, and the browser window even has tabs (check out part 2, halfway through). It must L4D2 menu, you can see the blood splatter and the big "2" sign.

In Part 3 in the back (TV) you can see some kind of mountainous/deserty terrain, what Valve game is that..?

Baww, Gabee.

He looks like a 15 year old giving a speech in his English Class.

I'd say it's from the original Half Life, when you exit into the canyon area.

Nice speech, really shows the lengths they go to, to keep the community happy.

Lol, I'm sure L4D must be a great game for deaf gamers! :p Now I know why 99.9% of L4D pub players are completely oblivious to when their team is like "help me Bill!". Also Gabe knows sign language too?

I think it's awesome this is a concern for Valve. Another reason, in my opinion, that Valve is the greatest video game developer on earth.

*puts "All your base are belong to Valve" t-shirt on

I seriously think this is brilliant, just once again shows how Valve are always thinking about new ways to make their games more accessible to everyone.

Can't wait until they help out the blind community.

But seriously this is nice.

That is HL3 (in-game) or pictures they took as reference to HL: Episode 3 imo.

I thought it was Black Mesa Source for a second. Obviously not but it certainly looks like the New Mexico stuff.

We can just blame the deaf community for the hold up on Ep 3.

Lets make a boycott group on Steam against deaf people.

My respect for Valve just grew by a huge margin. Respect Valve.

It will be very interesting how Valve implement a deaf character and sign language. The only thing that confuses me that if Valve do implement sign language like having Alyx sign with Dog how will those who don't understand sign language, understand?

Does Half-Life: Source have subtitles? I'm wondering if the main elements of the series are now deaf-friendly.

They don't really have to. It's like how in TV and films you get soldiers etc. using their silent hand signals for shizzle and most viewers don't understand the half of it.

No, it doesn't have subtitles.

A deaf gamer posted a thread or two on here a while back. Its good to see Valve go out of their way to help him out even if it's probably 95% a PR move.

I doubt it's just a PR move, one of the guys who attended posted the vids, not Valve. Did they even mention this happening?

Why does Valve have to be directly responsible for it getting out somehow for them to know they're probably going to reap some benefit from it?

It's not the first time some deaf gamer visiting Valve. I seen some other videos, and photos showing Valve's office visited by deaf gamers.

They'd have to at least be very sure it got out if that was the prime motive.

"Hey kid, read my lips, post this shit on the internet and you got yourself ten bucks and copy of Left 4 Dead, too.

......Hehe, he thinks I said 'Left 4 Dead 2'"

Update:

Valve will implement captions for the taunts of all Team Fortress 2 characters in the near future.

Yeah, but if they do implement a deaf character then we'll need some one to translate.
I'm not to thrilled about having a deaf character if it's going to make scenes twice as long due to translating everything he's saying.

God forbid a game be realistic, or players have to experience real disability.

They'd use subtitles, anyway.

It was with the 2009 Summer Academy in Advanced Computing for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing group.

I wonder if we are looking into this too much - I mean im sure Gabe comes up with ideas for games daily.

End of the world, eh?

I think they should implement a wheelchair bound character who likes to rock out. And call him Timmy.

Just for the lulz.

There's already a guy with a wheelchair in Decay.
