****Gabe's recommendation for video card****

Well, what if they already had an Xbox. Also, even if they didn't it would be a lot cheaper than getting a new high end system that would at least play the game somewhere near its best...

Damn right! I just pre-ordered HL2 for PC yesterday at my local EB, but I won't be able to play the wretched game until next year, when I can actually afford all the tools I'll need to upgrade my P.O.S. low end comp. Which is why I'll be playing it first on Xbox.

If Valve optimizes HL2 to work well with nVidia, there's no reason it shouldn't look presentable on an Xbox or any comp with the same video card.

Note, I didn't say as good as how it will look on PC. Just wanted to clear that up before any fanboys dog-pile me for bringing up a console in here.

i thought HL2 would be one of the first games to take advantage of the 256 DDR ram...? apparently not

It will be and once cards with those capabilities are more popular, Valve will release a special patch for people with those cards, dependant on how much it will increase performance levels. So just imagine, you get HL2 on a 128mb card and the graphics are mind blowing, then you upgrade to a 256mb card that can handle the full range of DX9 features and Valve release their patch - you'd be blown away again by the graphics. I believe the source to this is in the Sticky thread.

I would like to point out that the nVidia FX 5200... is a farkin' low-end card.. compare it to the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra....

but honestly who cares, we know HL2 will run great on a 128-256mb card...
