It's hit me before, but not his hard. I was in shop and I could smell a rather familiar scent. The smell instantly reminded me of Hellgate London, and it was coming from the ladies perfume who was standing in front of me. But also, I have always associated Doom 1 with the smell of these things:

The cheap things you find in show bags from carnivals or events.
At some point along the line, the smell must have been around on a regular basis whilst playing the game!

Also I had a Paladin a long time ago in World of Warcraft and I associated him with SUNSCREEN!

Anyone else have the same peculiar sensation?

I associate Gran Turismo 3, Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City (and the PS2 in general) with these generic chocolate chip cookies you can get at any A&P supermarket around here. They're delicious though. I used to eat them at my friend's place all the time when Vicey City was new, his mom bought several packs a week for some reason.

pizza and ninja turtles. also beer and halo. also weed and many games, glorious weed.....mmmm

When I first started playing PC games, it was at my friend's house down the street, because I didn't have my own PC at the time. We would play Starcraft there.

His dad smoked all the time, even in the house. My friend ended up giving me his manual to Starcraft, and I remember that it smelled very heavily of tobacco smoke.

To this day, I associate the smell of tobacco with Starcraft, and specifically, I associate it with Jim Raynor.

I associate Scandinavian Gingerbread Cookies with Eets, because I ate a lot of those while playing Eets one Wednesday afternoon.

Not a smell, but DOD classic always makes me think of frozen cookie dough, because of that one week where all I did was play DOD classic and eat frozen cookie dough. Also, dungeon siege two makes me think of the band goldfinger, on account of them somehow always ending up on when I played DS2.

There's probably more but I'd have to be playing the game to remember.

Half-Life with root beer, because i always drank it.

Xbox (old one) with a wood/paint mix smell, because we placed it in a new wooden cabinet, and it always smelled like that around there.

TBH, smells can be associated with any memory. We had a discussion once in a while in 7th grade where we'd say what smell we'd have, and what memory we had.

Mine wasn't really a common smell, but whenever I have smelled it, I thought of a pool I went to as a kid. Still have those....bah.

I've never found a person who couldn't associate some "Smell" they are familiar with into a game.

Quake 3/2 and thick cigarette smoke, from playing in internet cafes.

The smell of Clean Wood, Newly Laid Carpet and Flowers reminds me of Duke Nukem; but thats because I used to play it over at my cousins house when I was a kid

First thing I think of is basement smells being associated with playing Super Nintendo in my neighbor's basement. Probably have a smell association with most games I've ever been really into, though. It's actually a pretty powerful thing. Even some weather conditions will remind of different things.
