Game Crashes To Desktop

Every so often the game simply crashes to the desktop. It's extremely frustrating - not only do I have to restart the game and load every time this happens, but I have to continously save often because I'm afraid I'll lose my place.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Yeah I get that problem where it just crashes to desktop without an error, but im able to load some maps but as soon as I reach the "map loading" point it just starts to load and then "beep" windows error sound and it crashes back to desktop.

Hopefully some one will be able to find a temporary fix for this if they are having the same problem, but as it looks now I dont think ill be having this problem resolved unless I buy another computer which is not an option for right now. Maybe valve will pull through and patch it all up and nice, but only time will tell on that part.

So ill just wait patiently without HL² or CS:S...
Althought it is driving me insane :|

Well, On Tuesday it wasn't crashing to the desktop - I guess I must have done something to cause it. I'm thinking it might be my ram - but, again, I don't know how to fix it :/.

you guys, whats happenening to you is the memory read error that lots of other people get, my copy didnt actually give me an error when it crashed either, but if you run it in windowed mode then when it crashes it will give you a "could not read memory" error
