game never launches

I've got CStrike and HL setup for steam. The files appear to be the right size. (approx 350 & 420 megs repectively)

However, the game never launches and teh "preparing to play counterstrike" message just stays up.

Router settings perhaps?

Nope, 99% chance you still don't have all the game files. Even though you see the game files the proper size, that is because those .gcf files are cache files set up by your computer, as a place holder. As the material is downloaded through steam it is slowly written over the space reserved by the cache. Make sure the games are set to auto-update, and check your Moniter. I am sure you will find that the games are still updating, probably excessively slow like my own currently is. I am serious, I have been trying to get DOD and HL up for the past 4 hours, and it is still dl'ing so slowly.

Valve has to get some more content servers up and fast, this blowout is pretty bad. It should loosen up in a week, but you never know...

Yeah, that appears to be the case....good and slow. It's updating at 8 b/s

yeesh....

oh well, i didn't really feel like playing, just wanted to see how it all works.

Maybe I'll get the Cstrike/Steam bundle somewhere faster.
