My sisters used to be addicted to The Sims. My cousin who is about 12 and her little sister who is about 6 are currently addicted. In fact i see that as a very female oriented game.

So why do they like it so much? Well i think i've nailed it down to personalization and customization. You can dress you characters how you want, create your house how you want, arrange furniture to suit your tastes. Whilst playing Diablo 2 i've found a lot of girls that just liked equipping certain combinations of armour and weapons that gave their character a certain look.

Just an idea for modders to consider and hopefully get a few more girls on board. Instead of just shooting and killing, introduce other elements such as customization.

-Character customization (clothes, hair, sex, facial features? Look at most MMORPGs, Jedi Academy etc)

Well i'm done for today. Look for more game theory discussions by me.

Girls prefer to be a bit more creative. You gotta admit though, just forever running around and shooting enemies does get a tad dull at times. I like morrowind for its customisation, same went for Daggerfall before it. And I like the sims, though don't play it much atall now. But games like that do have more staying power I find. HL had similar staying power due to its customisability in the shape of mods.

then we quit pretending knowing what girls want. if they want anything it isnt going to be running around shooting, which is why they make up such a tiny percent of the gaming community. you brought up D2 and JA, but how many girls play those to begin with? im guessing not many.

Heh. You sexists, you're all the same! (kidding)

I don't know too many female gamers, but of the ones I know they just like simple games, where you don't have to memorize rules and controls and crap. Like my girlfriend, she loves Goldeneye 007 for the N64, because all you do is run around and shoot other people. A few others I know like racing games and stuff, and running around in the GTA series killing people. Maybe I just have weird female friends. :)

Hey, I guess I just completely contradicted all of the other posts. Yay!

all my girlfriends started like crying when they played gta. maybe i just have weird female friends though :)

Bahahahaha.

You should make them play the Soldier of Fortune games.

One of the most fun things about top spin for Xbox is making the most absolutely hidious character you can imagine. It really seems like a stupid "add-on," but it makes the game much more fun, you can really get in to the game more when you actually designed the character from scratch.

My mum's a solitaire and tetris addict, my sisters a Sims addict, and I know a few gals that are also tetris/card game/online puzzle addicts...

I'll stick to my first person shooters. I don't care if it's less mentally challenging, I own all!

so what they like to dress up their characters?
like a virtual reality doll game?
i dunno just a stupid remark from my brother.

Girls seem to like what the guys like. I play TFC with a bunch of ladies from my school and they seem to like the fast paced gore-fest just fine.

Well, popular games for my brother's signifigant other are Simcity, The Sims, any Blizzard RTS - all PC ones, and Smackdown, for the PS2. She loves creativity, and in the case of smackdown, it's so much fun to make your own little likeness (mine being a skinny guy in a suit) and kicking the crap out of someone else's likeness.

my girlfriend loves GTA:Vice City, because of the cars and the music.

oh, she also loves Dystopia, especially the chaingun (tho she hasn't really played it much)
