Game wont run=Bigger Problems?

Ok...I got BF 2....installed it all easy and stuff....but when I go to play it, I get the message. "CD/DVD emulation software has been detected. Please disable CD/DVD emulation software and re-start game". Ok... I did have an Alcohol 50% trial version a long long time ago...but I got rid of that. I do have Nero, so I uninstalled it. I see NO signs of there being any kind of emulation software on my PC yet it still says I've got something, and that its active.
Now....my bigger problem that may relate to this. I'm looking at my drive info to check out my DVD drive. (I have a Lite-on DVD drive...I think... :| ) But under optical drives it just says "CD-Rom Drive". Since I was a dumbass and bought this thing off E-bay.(it didn't come in an original box or have an install cd...or manual.. )...I'm gonna start assuming it isn't a real DVD-RW (i havn't bought any blank DVD's to try burning anything) I tryed to download a driver update from Lite-on and it dosn't work. It gives me this error that dosn't look good.

That drive dosn't sound like any offical kind of drive to me.......

SO.....do you think the fact that I've got a screwy DVD drive means its giving me these emulation error messages?
Its worked just fine up untill now. I got the damn thing so I could play Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.


Hey....if I did screw up at least I only payed 14 bucks for the dumb thing...... (probably a big red flag to begin with :upstare: )

I'd first say that alchol left a few registry entries when you uninstalled it.

But yeah, you getting giped is a VERY close second.

Well...I found a free reigistry cleaner on line and it didn't do anything. It sure did get rid of a lot of crap. But BF2 still dosn't like me.

Try pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL to see what is running, if there is anything that you are unsure about, google it and see what it is, could be something running in teh background thats upsetting BF2.

Thats what I started out doing. Its starting to look like I'm going to have to close programs one by one to see if it starts working. If that will even do anything.

Well only close stuff that you know don't have anything to do with teh general running of windows. You will find alot of information on processes when you search google.

yeah, before I was just seaching it in explorer. But all of the processes I have running are legit programs. I checked them all on google.

i had the same problem, too bad you didn;t keep alcohol cause it's easy enough to just turn off the virtual drive it has, dunno if it erases it when it gets uninstalled though

Did you clean any mentions of Alcohol from the registry with the cleaner?

And it might not be a DVD RW drive, but does it play DVDs?

Yeah, you can't just download a registry cleaner to do it for you. You have to go to the Alchohol keys in your registry and delete them.

I'm not too good at explaining things. Perhaps Badgey could explain how to do this.

Start -> Run -> Type regedit -> click edit(on top) -> find ->Type 1-0-0-0 E:JLMS XJ-HD1665 DS18 -> Select Match whole string(if unselected) -> Click Find Next.

If it finds any click delete then F3(F3 will continue the search), and repeat this last sentence.

Backup just to be on the safe side before you try anythign in teh registry.

To backup go to
Start -> Run -> Type regedit -> Select My Computer(in Regedit) -> File -> Export -> Save it as what ever you want(Just know where it is).

Hmm...sounds like your drive is messin with the game. Open up your case and unplug the data cable as well as the power cable from it. See if that help.

I think the most likely thing you're doin is putting a DVD BF2 into a CD drive.

No, this thing does do DVDs....like I said....I got it for Splinter Cell...and it worked perfectly for it. And I've installed all of BF2, it just wont let me play. It did seem like Alcohol imbeded itself deep within windows when I installed it. Like it messed with my start up preferances and everything. Using that Registry Editor I looked for Alcohol stuff and I found it. I'm gonna see what deleting it does (if anything).

Please backup your registry before you edit it! Can't be too careful.

I don't see how that would help though....I need the DVD to run the game.

Hmm this is one of those problems thats hard to track down, I know that this may sound alittle defeatist, but you could always format and reinstall windows. That would more than likely sort the problem.

Dunno if this will help, but I just found this on a website from someone who got the same error message as you did, except it was the Sims 2.

I had this problem and fixed it by useing the device manager to see and disable emulated drives. Still have to enable them any time I dont have the certain dics.

Right Click on My COmputer, PRoperties. From there i'm not totally sure, since i can't get there on this pc. I think there is a tab called Hardware or Devices or somethign like that, from there, there is a button called Device Manager. Once you are there look for a group called Emulated Drives and disable them.
