I thinking about buying a console, i was going to get the xbox 360, but since i only wanted it because of Alan Wake, Silent hill 5 and Resident Evil 5 and these games wont be released this year, maybe not until 2007. So it feels kinda stupid to buy the console and then wait a year or two to play it. So im thinking about getting a Gamecube or PS2. Does the GC have a DVD player so you can watch DVDs ?

Gamecube doesn't have a DVD player. Unless you buy a Panasonic Q which is a Gamecube/DVD Player. Which is what should have been released in the first place.

But the Q is only available in Japan. :(

No DVD player in the Gamecube. The gamecube discs are very small.

you can get a gamecube and a dvd player for cheaper than ps2 so dont let no dvdplayer hinder any decision

I'd say a Gamecube.
Im happy they have the small specially designed discs allowing No Load Times.

Get RE4!!!

Gamecube is much cheaper, and way more well built.

Get the cube! It has better first-party titles, some good exclusive ones, and there are still a lot more coming.

Knowing you though, you'd get the PS2 :p

My roomate and I just went halfsies on a GC off of ebay just this weekend. We're getting the cube, 4 controllers, and like 6 games for less than $200 total (less than $100 for my share).

I plan to get Zelda and RE4 shortly after we get it.

Get the liddle box.....RE:4 is the second best game I've ever played....and Ikaruga is "sex on a disc."

i own a gamecube, got it when they first came out, i never play it but I'm a Nintendo kinda guy

Simply put, if you want to play any of the GTA series (if you haven't got em on PC) or Gran Turismo 4 get the PS2, added bonus of the DVD player. However if your looking to be cost effective, get the 'cube, maybe not some of the games on the PS2, but still worth a look

Edit: I ain't saying those are the only good games on the PS2 btw, just those that immediately spring to mind

I got my Gamecube the day it came out and I haven't regretted it since. For such a cheap little box, you get loads of amazing first party games and some fantastic games that are too experimental to be put on other consoles. Plus you get the most comfortable controller of the three.

Games you should get:

Singleplayer:
First-person shooter:
  • Metroid Prime 1 & 2 (The first one should be dirt cheap by now, and it is superb)
  • Timesplitters: Future Perfect (The single-player on this is far deeper than you would ever expect and the challenges will keep you coming back)
Adventure/RPGs:
  • Zelda: Wind Waker (Even if you hate the visual style, this is an unforgettable adventure. And most importantly, lots of fun.)
  • Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (This may not be for everyone, but if you do take a fancy to it, you can say goodbye to your social life for a few months)
  • Tales of Symphonia (Looking for a more traditional RPG? This has all the floating numbers and +3 swords you could want)
Action:
  • Resident Evil 4 (Beautiful graphics, amazingly fun and a game that will actually make you scared of the dark)
  • Hitman 2 (The best in the Hitman series, and if you never played it on PC, get it now!)
  • Second Sight (Kooky, SP adventure from the Timesplitters lads. It was crap on PC, great on consoles)
  • Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes (A remake of the first Solid with enhanced graphics and features.
  • Eternal Darkness (Under-rated gem. Another scary game that is more original than every other zombie slasher out there.)
  • Killer 7 (Weirdest game ever! It may not be to your liking, but you need to expirience it. One of my favourite games ever.)
Other:
  • Super Mario Sunshine (It's like Super Mario 63! Not quite as good as the original, but still piles of fun. On a stick)
  • Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (Best control system ever! Rather than using a controller, you use bongo drums! Only the most experimental need apply.)
  • Ikaruga (As someone pointed out earlier, sex on a disc. Sex that is so impossibly confusing and frustrating you'll wonder why you paid for it in the first place. Then you reach the climax and realise it was all worth it.)
  • Soul Calibur 2 (One of the best fighting games on any format ever. And this one has Link in which is an added bonus)
  • Animal Crossing (Sims, but fun! :E What more could you ask for?)
  • Pikmin 1 & 2 (One of the most endearing RTSs ever. Loads of fun. And cheap. Go. buy. Now.)
  • Paper Mario (Intriguing Mario RPG-cum-platformer. Loads of fun)

Multiplayer:
  • Mario Kart (No multiplayer session is complete without some sort of Mario Kart session. Best after a large intake of alcohol where you will end up swearing at the "Mushroom Men")
  • Timesplitters: Future Perfect (Unflawed Deathmatch mode. There is nothing more satisfying than shooting your best mate with a flare gun in the head)
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee (See Mario Kart entry.)
  • Wario Ware Inc. (Who needs alcohol for this one? At a bargain price, there is no excuse for not woning this game. It's so good it must be bad for you)
  • Zelda: Four Swords (Like D&D but less geekier. Battle through a Zelda game with 2-4 people. Superb)

Yeah... admittedly I just went through my collection and reviewed them... but yeah... :p

If you get a GC make sure you get Super Monkeyball!! :) Get Viewtiful Joe as well.

Hmm. I only have a gamecube, to be honest, but I should probobly buy a PS2. It has a few good games on it.

I probobly wont buy an X-box, or the X-box 360, because so far the only good game I have actually heard thats on it is Halo. Its an awsome game, but... I dont want to spend like 200$ to buy the console, controllers, and the game itself.

But, ya, GC is awsome. Super Smash Bros Meleee!!!!!!!!

If you own a GC, this title is mandatory. Heck, they even have a bundle right now that includes this game for free!

I've lost so many evenings to trying to land my bubble-gifted monkey onto big colorful targets.....

OMG, i gave up on Smash Bros after I played this game: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-48-70-9qa.html

It totally blew me away!!!

Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 3 > Smash Bros. Melee

EDIT: I really love the Naruto anime series and so does my friend. He had the money to buy it, so he did, and we were hooked.
EDIT2: I know. To some people, there is no greater game than Smash Bros. However, they probably haven't played Naruto....
EDIT3: There is a PS2 version of the game( which also kicks much ass), but it plays a lot like a mix between the Dreamcast game Powerstone, Smash Bros., DBZ Budokai... only all the best parts of each game plus ninjas! http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-40-77-2-15-naruto-70-yq6.html#
EDIT4: Ninja > Pirate

Powerstone 2 was better than Smash Bros Melee IMO. Only 'cause I have so many memories of me and my mates playing it 4 player. Throwing crap and catching it was so much fun.

Dreamcast if you're pro.

Dreamcast had some good games but it was louder than my last PC...

I liked Powerstone 1 & 2 a lot though. They were always so much fun with a bunch of friends.

With buying GC you get lots of nice Nintendo classics rebuilt on GC, like Metroid, Zelda, Mario, etc. I'm still glad I have a GC over a PS2. I just like these games better, except GTA and stuff, but that's what a PC's for. Oh yeah, and it's for everything else I do.
