Gameinfo.txt craziness

Ok, so first I had all my automatically set up Half-Life 2 paths set for Valve Hammer editor. Previously, I had messed around with some of the gameinfo.txt files in order to try and get my CS sample level to work. Now, when I make a level on CS and compile the map, it stops and says "Error: gameinfo.txt does not exist in D:\Program". For some reason I had about 6 different gameinfo.txt files around my SDK folder and subfolders, and eventually I changed the .exe path to the Half-Life 2\hl2 folder instead of the SDK\sdkcontent folder, and when I compile the map, it gets as far as running HL2, loads up the main menu, and then doesn't do anything. I went onto the console and it said some stuff about not finding the map. This is really really annoying because I'm dying to play the actual maps I make. Has anyone else got this problem?

Does it build the BSP file though? Search for it, and if its been built put it in the half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp\maps or HL2/maps folder and then run the game. I'm not sure if this works for HL2 tbh, but it works for HL2DM....if this doesn't work, port your process window report here.
