Hey guys, I see a lot of people in this sub-forum wishing they could program, and then ask for somewhere to begin, and sometimes they get flooded with sits which really don't focus on game programming at all... I mean yes it does cover the language, but then you ask yourself "How does this apply to games?"
Well I just found this site, signed up to give it a whirl, and it looks okay... I mean it's certainly not the worse thing (lessons look rushed with spelling, gramatical errors every now and then... and sometimes it doesn't explain all the things needed to finish assignments but hey, that's why you can use the forums!)
Anyways these are classes, that you must work on, or you may get kicked from them for being inactive. If you want to learn how to get started (you won't get employed by VALVe in the first month ) then this could be your ticket... Or it may not... If you don't like these guys, simply unenroll, no harm, no foul.
There is NO FEE assosciated with this, which is why I ask those who are interested to at least try it out, and then just unenroll if it's too much for them. But it gives them a taste of C++ at least.
Just wanted to put this here to help out those who want to learn to mod The key is though if you don't practice you WILL not do good... I mean this is truly a foreign language type of scenario, if you don't use the language, you will forget the language. So the more practice you get the better.
Cheers
I'm Brian Hughes on the forums there!
Oh and Lesson1 is easy, took about 5 mins to create, tweak, perfect the assignments. The assignments you turn in are listed on the bottom of the lesson.
Oh and hurry because there is a time limit on the assignments it seems to keep everyone up to speed... You have until Tuesday to complete the two assignments at the bottom (in one zip file)
If you set aside one hour of time, you should be able to finish Lesson1....
Mod and all: I'm not affiliated with the site at all, so if you think this is "advertising" then do with it what you gotta do... I'm just trying to help wannabe programmers get going
