I was just thinking .. VUG can hold HL2 for six monthes, delay it or do whatever they want. It seems they have the legal right to do so.

The only thing to deter them is money; this has two parts:
1-They need revenue from HL2
2-They need money from other (future) games.

I think we can do something in that regard, to support valve (oh! how loyal are we! /sarcasm) and get HL2 asap.
We can play on the "reputation" card.

We can boycott VUG, we can spread the word about the issue, giving VUG a ad reputation among gamers. Game companies would move away from VUG .. etc. I don't know, but we surly can do something. After all this waiting .. we deserve HL2.

If VU delays HL2 intentionally just because of thier greed, they will surely piss alot of gamers off, and create a bad reputation for themselves.

But anyways, I would love it if it was our own (HL2 fans) pressure that forces VUG to release HL2. :naughty:

Not posible sorry, I'm sure that article was mare speculation.

I'm currently boycotting EA.

um the only people that will do this are people like us, on forums :p Harder to get the casual gamer or grandma buying their grandkids presents to do that :p. H2 & Doom3 people will just say 'HAHA TEH GAMEZ DELAYED HAHA U SUXORZ

Are you nuts? Do you have ANY idea how big Vivendi is? On top of that, VUG is only a distributor. If they look like a bad one, then game houses will choose another one. Nobody is going to attribute poor game sales to the distrubution company, unless they screwed something up royally.

Or we could actually find a law firm willing to file a class action on our behalf (good luck!).

er and what would we sue them for? lol Havent done anything wrong to us (legally)

This thread is so funny I almost wet myself reading some of the "idea's" :p

ill say it again im insanely pissed at that article. If its true. wow just wow.

Those of us who have prepaid for the game could sue them for non-performance of contract.

I think there's only going to be like 5 people who are actually going to boycott VUG.

To get the message across, some contact needs to be made by all of the HL community that "we ain't gonna take it, no we ain't gonna it". By this I mean from the VUGames website, go to the contact page and Contact them Regarding: Customer Service.

I am not saying sending hate mail and death threats, but voice an opinion to them. Online petitions are great and all, but how many of these companys read them?

Just an idea.

It was your choice to purchase the upgrades. So this wouldnt hold up :p And haven't VALVe set that release date (from last year)? or did VUG say this?

I will start by buying Hl2 through Steam.

I already cancelled my pre-order from sendit and preloaded from steam in preparation to buy direct from valve- I'm one of those 5 people boycotting VU -the french nazis that they are...

You want to get at VUG, buy through Steam. Give them as little money as possible.

Here's another one. What if we boycott gamespot for delivering us nothing but a bag of worries? ;) Stop reading it, it's harmful for your nerves! :D

:bonce:

Um .. ok, so some people seem to find this redicolous.

I was just saying maybe we can do something, if my ideas are stupid, why don't you come up with better ones?

Well, I plan on getting it via steam if VU chooses to do what's the best for themselves and not the industry.

exactly the same here.

if VU does sit on it (for more then a month) I will be buying via steam. and I won't "Buy" any game that they publish again either.

I was gonna get in box but i think i'll get it over steam even though i'll have to dl steam and deal with all that hassle(lost my hl1 cdkey @last reformat so i havn't played in 7-8 months or so.)

I also do not buy games with the EA label on it.

I'm also boycotting iD software games from now on.

And will most likely boycott Vivendi by buying through Steam. If i can hurt VUG in anyway possible i will!

what will ya'all do if vivendi ends up getting the revenues from STEAM?
kinda screws things up a bit, don't you think?

Regardless of what happens and who wins, we, as the consumer, literally have no rights, as the CHOICE TO NOT PURCHASE is ours from the beginning. It's not up to us who gets the procedes, although, believe me, i wish we did.

The best we can do is voice our concern over the issue, send in letters of complaint (preferably registered mail, as they cannot deny receipt then), and give Valve the  as thanks for making the game. Or, if we are lucky, Vivendi gets no revenues from the merchandise, like the "Raising the Bar" book, and we can support them that way. Would be nice if they let us know the way we can support them the most....or maybe that's what the hl2.php site was all about.

VALVe pretty much sold most of their rights to VU when they needed money for HL1, now VALVe has more control over HL2 but they're still bound up in contracts when they needed HL1 to be published and distributed, which is a shame. VALVe will have an escape clause somewhere, remember contracts, even signed one's, aren't set in stone, there's always a way out. VALVe could if worst comes to worst ask the courts to make them release it.

I say:
LETS PUT A BOMB IN THE VUG BUILDING!!!1

I gonna get the C4

Thanks to the Republicans we can come with assault weapons, and thanks to Valve we know how to use em, it's just point and click.

Settle down there tiger. You pre-order with the store, not with Vivendi/Valve. Every time you pre-order the game, the store you pre-ordered it from, takes your money and spends it but gives none to Vivendi/Valve (technically booked under unearned revenue). Once they receive word that the game is being released, they intentionally order one extra copy of the game to make sure they fulfill their obligation.

Once the game arrives and you receive it, the store then books it as revenue (not when you pre-order) and then some of the revenue finally makes it way onto Valve/Vivendi.

You can't sue Vivendi, you can't sue anybody if you pre-ordered.

I frankly don't care if the game is delayed another 6 months. HL2 is just another game to me right now. Valve and Vivendi isn't making a very convincing argument to buy it as soon as it comes out.

I seriously think people are jumping the gun here.. lets wait and see before we swear vengeance on VU... I mean poor VU has been waiting for the game from valve for 6 years too.. so we cant get mad when they have had it for like a week.

:p

they have the ability to hold the game for 6 months under thier contract.. however that doesnt mean they will... and they have not. so we should hold judgement.. for all we know the first rc was shite regardless of all the time Valve supposedly had it in testing.

when they hold it for certain is when I wont pay them for any game they release (bought from steam for hl2, and pirated for the rest.. sorry to the devs if that is the case)

Well... i just got done about getting Saddam released, and was on the phone with osama they have agreed to change from hating america, to hating vivendi..we should expect them to bomb vivendi in... 0100 hours... The US military also agrees that vivendi sux and is setting tanks and troops so no one from vivendi escapes.

lol...im screwed up arn't i...

It could just be that Vivendi are pissed off at Valve for saying "Summer" when Vivendi were intending to release in November. And they'd already made arrangments for it.

If people did send countless amounts of hate-mail to Vivendi then they will be like "pfft there just a bunch of kids with too much time on thier hands" (that is if they are rich but I heard Vivendi is poor or some f*cked up crap like that)

But as they say "You shoudnt count your chickens before they hatch" so maybe the game wont be delayed after all

The mind boggles

Well, I wouldn't expect them to hold it hostage had they not basically done the exact same thing before. Unfortunately I beleive Vivendi has the upper hand again. It's true they are hurting for money and that HL2 will probably result in huge earnings, but I took a look at the VUG website to see what other games they had coming out. They have brand names like Crash (and more importantly Tribes) along with some other lesser-known titles coming out on or before the holiday season of this year. This may result in large earnings that could hold them out for the 6 months while they hold HL2 hostage.

It all really depends on how well their other games sell, how much animosity they hold towards Valve, and how aware their shareholders are about the potential loss in profits. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.
