Can I have a few recomendations on a good mouse to buy for HL2, my current mouse shipped with my new computer and is uncomfortable to use after an hour or so. What is a good dpi for a mouse? I am looking for one under $40, preferably cheaper.

Also here are the specs for my new computer:
-AsusP4P800-E deluxe
-PentiumVI 2.8mhz w/HT Prescott 1Mb 800fsb
-2x512Mb DDR400 PC3200 Samsung
-LiteOn 52x32x52
-Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live!
-120Gb ATA100 WD1200BB 7200rpm
-17" .25mm 1600x1200 PerfectFlat Viewsonic PF775B
-Logitech Z-640 5.1 Speakers

If I could get someone who knows what they are talking about to give estimates of the LOD, resolution, and FPS I will be able to run HL2 with, I would greatly appreciate it.

Well i thought i seen like 1000 dpi in a mouse on pc gamers magazine, although didnt have any side buttons.

I'd get a 800dpi one from microsoft taht has 2 or 4 buttons on the side of the mouse, obvioulsy a middle button, and obviously a left and right buttons...

Microsoft or Logitech i believe both provide pretty good mouses.

Thanks, I was looking into Logitech, but prices would be nice. I don't know of anywhere on the .net to buy mice.

Going to a store wouldn't hurt, to see what feels good in your hand, then you could just froogle it and buy it off of the net. I have an older logitech laser track-ball device, and I've never been able to go back to standard mouse. Some people don't like to have to adjust, but after you can precisely aim anywhere on the screen with just a flick of your index finger, any mouse seems out-dated.

the MX510 is the best mouse IMO. I just got it a couple days ago and I love it.

I use mx700....I will never go back to a corded mouse.

Why does everyone hate corded mouses except me? The corded mice are a lot lighter then the wireless ones and the cord never gets in your way. Whats the big problem with corded mice?

Thirded on the MX510. I've had one for awhile now, excellent mouse. Very accurate and all the buttons you'll ever need. I got the red and black one to go with my tower's color scheme but they make a blue and black one now too, which looks nice.

Also, Pentium VI? You own a Pentium 6? Hey in the future do we have hover cars yet?

I dunno...my mx700 feels pretty light...but thats of course i'm not weak. ;)

lol. Nope ive never actually held one, just all the stuff i have read about them say they are heavy and are hard to aim with.

Same here :p Once I went wireless, I'm never going back :p

MX700 for wireless
MX510 for wired..

Thats because it was ether there first corded mouse or again...they are weak. Also it's not hard to aim with...Ever since I got the mx700 I have been getting headshots out the ass in CS. :sniper:

well if I was ever to actually buy the mx700 I would have to go to the store and play a couple games just to see what its like. But right now I will stick with my MX510.

Yea...I will admit it might take you sometime to get use to it if it's you first cordless mouse. My first was a logitech cordless mouseman...and man was it huge.Ever since then the only type of mouse I will use is cordless.

How much of a difference is there between a normal mouse, and a 800dpi+ mouse? as far as gaming goes?

Thanks for the advice everyone, and sorry, its a petium IV. too bad though....

mx510, blue.

Nice mouse, if a bit small. The red light stays on even when the computer's off. go figure. Nice mouse though. Corded is fine for me, means I don't have to worry about batteries and crap.

like said before MX 500 or MX510, or hell if you want to spend the money get the 700!

You don't have to worry about batteries with the mx700 ether...it recharges. :naughty:

Ya thats what i like about the 700 is the fact that it recharges. With my old wireless mouse for my laptop i was constantly changing the batteries.

What about the scrolly wheel? I don't know much about different logitech models. I can't stand a smooth scrolly wheel. The mx510 is umm... bumpy... is how you'd put it I suppose.

Yes the mx700 has the same bumpy feel.I to can't stand the smooth scroll wheels.

Have any of you tried side scrolling. It takes a while to get used to but after that its a nice feature to have.

I've got meself an mx310....and i like it so shut up you cool people with ur really cool mice. :(

Whats the whole deal with performance mouse pads though. I never bought one because I always thought it was a bunch of BS. Doesnt anyone have one and how well does it work?

ive got a func mouse pad, its aparently a performance pad. it does work though. its surface is perfect for a mouse so i guess thats what they mean. those rubber pads and bare wood surfaces suck compared to this thing.

I have a funcpad. Its pretty nice and it has a large surface area too.
If you have a wired mouse it has a wire clip to keep it out of the way.
It has two sides (Smooth/Ruff). I doesn't attract dirt and it even comes in it's own Tin! lol
I like it a lot.

Cool I will check it out. Right now im just using an old Oracle mouse pad. I will see if there is an improvement in my gaming, but right now I have my doubts.

Ha...I win!!I'm using my table top!!!Beat that shizzle...

I figure I will give that funcpad a try its only $20 so even if I dont like it, its not like its a huge waste of money.
Looks good and has got some good review on newegg.

good choice. i prefer the mx300 for its small size for easy quick movements.

I'm using a super generic blue, plain mousepad I stole from my dad's desk (I left him with my bigger, better mousepad though.. so it's okay :)!

HAH!

It was better, as in thicker, had some picture on it.. something from GE (where he works, which he got for free), and it was higher quality. However, the differing colors seemed to be screwing up my MX700.. I might've been imagining it, but I swapped it out for this blue one. Plus, I needed it to be a tad smaller :)

I just got a new logitech mx510 (red) this week and I love it. I don't know if its just psychological or what, but I immediately noticed I could aim much better and I was hitting my targets far better adn with more ease in CS and DoD. I love this mouse. I got it after my MS intellimouse explorer's right mouse button stopped registering. That was actually the second intellimouse explorer that has failed on me. The first was with the origional design. it worked well but after a while the cursor started crawling along the screen by itself like an inch worm. So their quality has not been good to me but it might just be normal wear out since i use it so much. On the good side though, i was able to call them and get the one that just recently crapped out on me for free.

So.... what difference is there between having a good dpi and a bad, as far a gaming goes, and could I get some prices? Thanks, also can you get any of these models in black, I have a black computer, and a red or blue mouse would look dumb.

Has anyone tried the new Razer mice? I've been seriously thinking of getting one. Hell, the new Razer Boomer Speed, even though it's a ball mouse, gets 2100 dpi. And their optical is supposed to operate at anywhere from 25 to 150% more resolution than other optical mice. I've read nothing but good reviews. Price is a little on the upper end, $50 for the viper optical, and $60 for the Boomer Speed, but from what I've read they seem well worth it.

I have the mx310 ...the mx500 had too many buttons IMO

From what I have read about the original Razor mouse, it doesn't make a difference. To put it in simple terms, it's bottlenecked. You don't see any use with the large DPI.
I'm not sure on the new mouse though.

The difference between mice is basicly the sensor and how sensitive and responsive they are. If you are doing word and excel then it doesnt matter and a 15-20$ is great.
If you are gaming then you can put that sensor to use and you should notice a difference.

I perfer optical mice, myself. Ball mice are a thing of the past along with any previous 'advantage' they once had. IMO
Some ppl say there's a difference between USB and PS2 but I havn't noticed any. lol

It depends more on how sensitive of a setting you like to play your games at. If it's low then your not really going to notice a difference, but high sensitivity gamers will definitely apreciate the higher dpi.
