Games in which the protagonist dies after winning(?)

Spoilers for several games

Diablo 1+2 - Diablo possesses the hero at the end of the first game, and is killed in Diablo 2

This brings up the semi-related topic of characters who are killed in games other than the ones in which they are the protagonists. One has already been mentioned from the GTA series. But there's also been a trend in recent years to insert chracters (particularly protagonists) from rival game franchises into games as Easter eggs. Notably,

Doomguy is found dead in the prison level of Duke Nukem's opening chapter:

Duke himself is found dead (mutilated and hanging from the ceiling on chains), in the 3D Realms games "Blood."

An undercover cop named, Tanner, is murdered by the player in a GTA3 mission entitled, "Silence the Sneak." He's clearly meant to represent the protagonist of the "Driver" series.

Reflections Interactive would take their revenge on the GTA franchise by placing models of a character named Timmy Vermicelli around the map of Driv3r for the player to hunt down and kill.

The body of a rookie Stalker, named Freeman can be found inside a tunnel in the game "Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl." His PDA makes it clear that he is included as a reference to the Gordon Freeman of Half-Life lore.

(Edited for spelling)

Shadow of the Collosus.

Of course, technically he was reborn. So I don't think it counts.

Okay, this is a stretch, but, what happens to the two playable vorts at the end of Decay's bonus level "Xen Attacks"? Are they show escaping or can it be assumed they end up as casualties of the BM nuking?
