Yes I know I just posted another thread about all this. However things have changed and its a slightly different problem.

Problem: Anywhere between .01 and 60 seconds into any game, my computer freezes completely and requires a reboot. Cannot ctrl+alt+del or anything.

Things I have tried:

1. Omega Drivers
2. Using previous ATI Drivers
3. Running Memtest and MemPro to see if it was a memory issue.
4. Checked for overheating. Both my Ati X800 Xt and my cpu are at normal temperatures.

My ATI X800 XT:

VPU Recover: OFF
AGP Mode: 8x
Fast Writes: On
Monitor Refresh Rate: 60hz

Any ideas?

PSU ?
and do you run your CPU overclocked?
more info on you PC plz.

I would test a new PSU with more power. Could be that yours is under powered or is starting to go out. What unit do you have now?
Also, you could try FastWrites off.

fastwrites ALWAYS off. it doesn't help your performance but can give you stability problems. deja vu i said this in your other thread.

OH MY GOD... YOU TOO?
I have the same problem... my X800 XT PE crashes on every game, although mine is fine for longer (anywhere between 3 and 15 minutes) before crashing. For me, when it crashes, the audio loops then shuts off, the screen goes all crazy colors then goes into power saver mode, and I have to reboot. I tried wiping my C Drive, didn't work, so it's clearly not a driver issue.

But FastWrites... how do I turn that off?

sorry, I just found it myself... if you right click the ATI Icon in the bottom right corner of the screen, then go to settings, then ATI Display Settings, you can find it.

Also, my graphics card is running at 52 degrees C. Is this too hot? (I don't know jack about temperatures and whatnot)

oh wow... turning Fast Writes off didn't work, although the game I played took a lot longer to crash...
However, I checked my GPU's temp right after it crashed, and it was at 66 C! It's dropping steadily now, but I'm thinking that this might have something to do with it.

EDIT: I just vacuumed out my PC, and cleaned the fans. It was absolutely full of dust. That seems to have fixed it.

lol at least one of us is fixed.

I noticed that my card gets to about 90 - 100c before it starts to freeze the game and then I'm forced to reboot. Overheating problem?

90-100C? yeah that would be overheating.
Mine hits 70-75C but 90? ouch

Yep, those temps are too dam high Shinra, Asus' temps are fine- the nvidia 6xxx cards run hotter, and are made to, but Ati cards shouldn't really be going over 55C.
You using a stock heatsink and fan? If so, you should consider returning the faulty product. Or you could apply some aftermarket thermal grease- whether you're using a stock heatsink or not, that'd be a good idea. Clean out dust.etc, you're on the right track.
What kind of airflow you got in your case? Good or bad? Case temps?

mobo temp - 30c, cpu temp idles at 45, loads at 53c. 7 case fans. 2 front, 2 side intake, 2 back outtake, 1 top outtake.

i kinda dont have the warranty or anything to return it. so it looks like im stuck using aftermarket shit to cool it down. any suggestions?

the zalman flower cooler is good, my flatmate's using one on his x800pro, and gets temps in the high 20s. You can get copper, or alluminium and copper, both work fine. Nice and cool, and very quiet. Shop around though- try www.newegg.com

just to throw some shit onto the weirdness pile, battlefield 2 demo works flawlessly and hasnt lagged out on me at all. anything on steam still does....:-\

thats weird, but not entirely. I remember when HL2 first came out my pc was overclocked very high, hl2 and CS:S would crash, while every other game was perfect. i underclocked a few mhz and it was fine. some games stress the CPU in different ways, and your system just may be on the borderline of completely stable in all apps, even if you aren't overclocking.

haha..noticed im still quoted in ur sig posey. (im guinny)

its an fx-53 processor and i just dont understand what the hell is goin on lol. its not OC'ed at all. bf2 runs flawlessly, as does pretty much every other game. but if i go to play some css, forget about it.
