Games that were worth it (and weren't)

The stealth mechanics may be less realistic, but the gameply and stealth mechanics are far better, they allow for a much more varied and fun gameplay. I don't like the cutscenes either, in fact I absolutely hate them, I thought they pretty much ruined TTS, but not for the reason you stated. I hate them because in TTS they look rediculus, like you're watching an episode of the powerrangers, so rediculusly over the top. I'd rather have long cutscenes with a good story, then short with a bad story like in SC.

The cutscenes are good in Twin Snakes if you have played the original MGS (which I'm sure you have), because they just make you remember how good the old one's were. Like you said, the annoying thing about the cutscenes is that they look forced and crude. I mean, the part where the Armstech president forgets Meryl's codec number and Snake goes apeshit; that was completely out of character. And I swear snake didn't try to beat up Otacon in the origonal. Oh yea and.. BACKFLIPPING OFF A MISSILE? Mind you, all this would be forgiven if they had actually used the origonal sad music. If you can, try and download the MGS music "Enclosure", or "Sniper wolf's death". This music was used to a great effect during about four scenes in the origonal, and Twin Snakes just doesn't feel the same without it. That music made me cry during the sequence on top of Metal Gear, but when I played that part through again in Twin Snakes, I was just waiting for that music to start. Instead they added some crabby ambience in the background or something.

Mind you, all the sequences with Ninja were 10 billion times cooler than the origonal!

*edit*

Whoa whoa whoa buddy, hang on, Splinter Cell has a decent story. I dont think Information Warfare has been handled so well in any other game or even movie to date, but with that said, its not the best story.

Now, i know a good story when i see one. I've played Grim Fandango, Planescape:Torment, KOTOR 1 and 2 and many other games with long storylines. Even Deus Ex had a good storyline and features the same things from MGS, but MGS's storyline was so obnoxious and laughable that i when the game ended, i actually said to my brother that i was going to bomb Konami for making that game.

OK, admittedly I haven't played Splinter Cell all the way through, so I'm sorry for making that comment. I'm sure it does have a decent story. And I'm not going to argue about MGS anymore, because it's obvious that I like it and you don't, and nothing's gonna change that.

Yeah the missle bit was pretty cool, but ridiculously over-the-top mind you. I still think the coolest cutscene ever is that knife-fight with Krauser in RE 4. Totally sh*ts on every over-the-top action scene in MGS:TTS combined. And none of them are too long either.

- Not an argument!-

Just to ask: what is it you dislike about the story? Also, what ending did you chose?

Oh and read my edit ^_^

I'll pm you. Hang on a tic ;)

I've written a reply, but there's two problems:

1. Your PM box is full :
2. PMs have to be 2,500 characters long, mine's quite a bit longer :|

By the way, nice PM, very well written :)

Oh ok, i'll clear it out, and thanks :)
Edit: All done, send away if its still there

If anyone actually think SC's plot is better than any of the MGS's, they need some serious rethinking on what is a good story. SC's plots are decent. Thats it.

yeah lots of mgs vets had problems with tts, btw it wasnt made by konami either but i guess you knew that, cutscenes were over the top i hear with certain 1s changed and dialogue too, voice actors were worse too i hear, mei ling doesnt have her chinese accent etc, this was copied from another forum:

1. No accents on Mei Ling and Naomi. Though Mei-Ling sounds chinese in the original and MGS2.
2. Different voice for the ninja.
3. Graphics done by a movie director and look like a cross between MGS and the Matrix.
4. Cut-out dialogue in this version. MGS had more dialogue and made it seem that Snake was more of a trained killer in the original.
5. Stage names on all characters except the voice of Solid Snake and Mantis.
6. Extended cutscenes like Snake vs. Ninja and Ninja bloodbath.
7. Mario and Yoshi cameos as well as things from Eternal Darkness.
8. Certain MGS 2 things like shooting in first person view and going into lockers.
9. No VR missions like MGS.
10. Other extras like dog tags, etc.

its supposedly very boring when compared to the original and easier.

EDIT:MGS4 NEWs
The May issue of the UK's official playstation 2 magazine has an interview with Hideo where he talks about MGS4 and a question refers to the new director as Ken-Ichiro Imaizumi. He then went on to say "I want to keep a distance from MGS4. I will still be involved, as will Yoji Shinkawa (concept artist) and the team that has been making the series for the last ten years"

While certainly not the best, I find them to be better than decent. And I personally think they take massive shits all over the exaggerated and ostentatious bile that the MGS series offers.

Worth It:

Operation Flashpoint - I picked this game up after only seeing its box. I took it home, tried to play it, got frustrated with all the controls, died about a million times, and then shelved it for a few months. Later, I tried it again and got hooked for a solid year. Probably one of my favorite games of all time. I still play the occasional MP game every now and then, and I eagerly await the sequel.

Half-Life - Hell, even if I didn't like the actual game, all the content that flowed forth from the community made this worth it. It's a good thing no level of foresight could have predicted all the mods it spawned, otherwise they probably would have jacked up the price into the thousands.

Half-Life 2 - Got the silver package. So, I've got HL2, CS:Source, the entire back catalogue of Valve products, the free and oh-so-fun addition of HL2DM, and the nice free content that Valve is generously offering. Honestly, I could have just settled for the gravity gun.

Knights Of The Old Republic - My favorite RPG of all time. The Star Wars universe was never this fun. I've played through it multiple times just because it's so damn engrossing. The characters were fleshed out, the Force powers rocked, and the game's plot twist left me floored. And I think that Bastila, even with her nasal and condescending Jedi lecturing, was the first and only female NPC that I've ever actually cared about. BRING ON KOTOR 3!

UT2004 - So much content! So much fun! Hell, the only gametype I bother with is Onslaught, but it's just so damn cool! Every serious gamer needs at least one title with twitch-skills, vehicular mayhem, and break-neck pacing. One effin' solid reccomendation.

Halo - Some levels were just fun to play over and over again, and the coop it offered resulted in many night-long Legendary marathons with my buddies and I.

Splinter Cell - Some people bitched about the game lacking replay value. But I've never really grown tired of being a super stealthy badass.

Not Worth It:

Doom 3 - Actually, I found this game fun. I still have it on my computer. But even since HL2 rolled around, I haven't picked it up again. I've completely lost interest. I've not even beaten it, so I have no clue what progress I've made thus far. Maybe some other day. But currently, I sort of regret spending 60 bucks on it.

Halo 2 - This was fun. Just as fun as the original. In fact, it was exactly the same amount of fun as its predecessor. And considering it was supposed to be the big badass sequel, that sort of detracts from its overall worth. This was the same exact crap from the first game, and the ending nearly made me snap my disc in half. They might as well have called it Halo 1.5. I was even more infuriated when GameSpy (further substantiating my opinion that they have practically no credibility) named it their GOTY.
We were patient. We waited a long time. You knew we were going to rush out and buy this game regardless of the reviews. So what do you do? You give us two "neat" features and crap ending. Thanks, Bungie. I'll think twice before I buy your next title.

Fable - So much potential. I enjoyed it, don't get me wrong. But it's another game that I just couldn't be bothered to beat.

Knights Of The Old Republic 2 - I really wish this game wasn't in this section. In many ways, it doesn't deserve to be. It's plot was better than the first. The characters were even more fleshed out. The Influence feature added depth. But the game was so full of bugs that I actually questioned my sanity as I persisted in playing. Hell, one of my allies, Visas (a Dark Side character) was instantly uber-light upon recieving her. Eh?
And then there was the ending. Zero wrap-up. Zero conclusion. Your friends? **** 'em, they might as well not have existed. And to add insult to injury, I then discovered that there was apparently mounds of cut content. Content that was so good, in fact, that KOTOR2 would have been twice as good as the original if it was kept in. It's such a shame that Obsidian had to force their baby out prematurely. I just want to choke Lucasarts for this crap. As much fun as I had with the game, I was left wanting so much more. I feel like I now have a void inside of me, and it doesn't help that I don't know how long it's going to take until word of KOTOR3 comes around. Right now, I just wish I didn't play this game at all.

This is all just off the top of my head. There's many more titles to put into both categories, but it would take me ages of brain-searching and typing.

I said they were decent. I also said MGS storyline was half-decent at best. Me and Suicide42 talked about it and i've got a little bit more understanding of the game but i still think the storyline is just too silly, but the characters are decent.
