Games that you wish could be remade verbatim

Screw your /end thread. Deus Ex isn't the best game evarrr

I've got a habit of bumping this, but I loved it alot. Blade Runner with updated graphics. Also I'm a Dark Forces fan, so that too.

How I wish that someone could find the way to make modern games with the appeal of traditional turn based RPGs like Ultima, Fallout and so on. I refuse to think that good graphics and powerful machines have to necessarily kill a genre and turn everything into action-something. Formulas can change, graphics can go 3D, no problem with that, but the gameplay should remain the same.

If that were the case, then BF1942 would look as good graphically as BF2.
Or there'd be mods making it look as good as BF2 out by now.

Iirc, BF2's on a Refractor 2 engine while BF1942's on the Refractor 1 engine.

But, I don't really know anything technical about game engines.

That's not really how it works; the same engine doesn't equal the same graphics, BF2 is running different shaders for example. And since the source-code for the engine isn't public, the graphics can't be updated by modders.

All PC Battlefield games are built on the Refractor 2 engine---Codename: Eagle was built on Refractor 1.

By the way, Starcraft's graphics are perfect as they are; a remake could only hurt.

Huh, I never knew that.
Must be a very heavily modified R2 engine.

Anyways to add another few games, Giants : Citizen Kabuto... can you imagine what this

Would look like if it was next-genified?!

Or Rune, dear God...

Next-gen decapitations!

I would want the following to be remade:
Wild Arms 1

I would have to agree. Wild ARMs was one of my favorite RPGs. Though, the game WAS kinda redone a bit with Wild Arms Alter Code F...sadly, some gameplay elements were taken from 2 and 3. Bleh.

Chex Quest, but the sounds have to be exactly like they were on the old ISA Sound Blaster cards. I have the game on a revised Doom engine, but the cheese in the sounds is just not there.

THIS

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time ftw!

THIS

And also Dark forces, outcast, Descent 1 and 2, ONI and Metriod 1, 2, and Super Metriod.

it's probably been said but, total annihilation. The only rts I enjoy. :(

edit: and for all those saying "half-life" go check out, black mesa: source...if you haven't heard of it yet (unlikely?):

American McGee's Alice - would be awesome to see such a dark and insane world with modern graphics

Psychonauts - okay, I know it's way too soon, but I recently played it at 2560x1600 and was wowed a second time by the style, but the lack of detail was noticable. I'm imagining Psychonauts with Ratchet & Clank -quality graphics.

Duke 3d - A remake would be great to tide us over for the next several decades before the DNF comes out.

The Longest Journey - One of the coolest parts of Dreamfall was revisiting some of the locales of the original in full 3d glory.

Final Fantasy VI

The Incredible Machine series

Heart of Darkness - a fun puzzle-platformer

Okami - just kidding

Epic Pinball - a great old pinball game. Coded in pure x86 assembly.

Half-Life + expansions

Yeah, but we'd like to be able to play it at some point in our lifetime.

None. If I want to play an old game, I'll play the old game.

Yeah, i know. I would just prefer the original to be redone only in terms of the graphics. They were bad even for the PS1. The gameplay didn't need to be touched as it was perfectly fine. Other than that, it was an underrated classic!

I was gonna say Armored Core, but then found out they're actually up to Armored Core 4 now?! Holy shit, I gotta check that out!

Oh and Deus Ex + Tribes 2 + Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow (so people would play the multiplayer again). :p

Jet_Force_Gemini.jpg

Jet Force Gemini. One of my favorite games from the n64. The Co-op provided weeks of great fun.

Black Mesa is not what I want from a HL remake because they're changing it a bit. I want HL, the same feeling, the same look, the same gameplay, just way sexier.

Final Fantasy VI: The best FF ever. Just like FFVII though, it'll never happen, and it should stay that way tbh. I don't want the sacrity of my favorite FF being ruined by mainstream vomit. It would still be nice though.

Super Punch Out!: Hell yes. I loved this game. I've completely mastered the SNES version and can defeat most of the boxers in 40 seconds or less. Including the Bruiser brothers and Super Macho Man. (I beat Gabby Jay in only 7 seconds, on the first round. :O) Fight Night 3 is good, but I still would like to see a modern SPU.

Blood: The best PC FPS shooter ever.

Updated compatibility for the older ones would be nice though...
Yeah, that's all I'd really want. I'm happy to put up with the old graphics as long as I can actually play the thing. I don't want any modern developers to put their time and resources into developing an exact copy of an old game when the original is right there and they could be doing something more interesting or innovative.

What???
Lack of detail?!
Psychonauts has an incredible amount of detail in the world and all of the levels.

you say that like any of those games (excluding TFTD) stand anywhere near the first xcom. their all poor imitations when judged against the first two. (ufo defense and tftd)

and while ET is similar to the original it's still lightyears away. (moves a bit closer with some mods)

all I literally want is the orginal that can run on vista without dosbox, graphics is a bonus but not required. everything else must be the same.

Bah stop living in the past. The UFO games are bloody brilliant especially considering the mod community that is sort of still around. I'd play a game of Aftershock over the original any day. Want a pure MP game try http://ufo2000.sourceforge.net/ Wanting everything the same is what makes me hate you (well not personally). Any new additions should not be exactly the same, they should offer a similar experience without being clones.

TA Spring - http://spring.clan-sy.com/screenshots/screen96.jpg
Supreme Commander - You should know what this looks like.

KGO!

Anyone who disses X-Com should get a rifle showed up their ass and fired.

I haven't played 3 or 4, but Armored Core 2 was significantly less awesome than the original.

Blood: The best PC FPS shooter ever.

Oh hell yes, if they can get all the things right that they did with it (the feeling of the weapons, the overall awesomeness of the dark and moody atmosphere) I would be more than happy to see it all redefined in omgsexyHD. :E

You could call the HRP a remake of Duke Nukem 3D, although a total remake made by 3D Realms wouldn't be too bad. However, I wish they would just focus on DNF instead.

I would also like to see a remake of Unreal, the first one.

Any space x4 games

Ascendency
Fragile Allegiance
Imperium Galactica I or II (Just give II widescreen capabilities upto 1440x900, more detailed textures and bug-free gaming in Vista: No need to change th gameplay)

Lost Empire: Immortals (forget a new coat of paint, it hasn't even been given a second coating)

Fragile Allegiance was a great game, I loved both it and the game it was based off.:)

Blood: The best PC FPS shooter ever.

Oh yeah. Monolith should definitely consider a remake of the first Blood after they are done with Project Origin. This was the first FPS I've played, probably the nostalgia talking but it was a hell of a fun game.

Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 ... I loved the first one, and never got to play the 2nd, and I still can't because I can't get dosbox to run it right :\

Basically all classic adventure games. I'm not naming them all...

After a lot of thought, one game that I think would be ever such awesomeness redone, would be Die by the Sword. However it would probably be better to just make a sequel, as it had a lot of bugs/weirdness.
