Games you are looking forward to and games you just don't get the hype for

what part of "don't start" do you not understand? sick of arguing with people about this

bottom line is, world at war is NOT COD 5 and MW 2 is NOT COD 6
also, COD 7 is a working title.... who knows what they will actually call it
period.
You're right. The phrase "world at war" is not equivalent to the phrase "call of duty 5". Unfortunately, they both refer to the same game.

Maybe the phrase "world at war" us not equivalent, but the whopping great "Call Of Duty" over the top is.

(I now you were saying it is a Call Of Duty game, just wanted to point it out :))

Stoked for:
Mass Effect 2
Dragon Age: Origins
Mirrors Edge 2

Considering:
BioShock 2
Majesty 2

Don't get hype for:
Star Wars: The Old Republic

Perhaps we could argue over something other than the title of a generic FPS sequel?

Very excited for:
Left 4 Dead 2
Scribblenauts

And those are the only games I really want that haven't already been released.

People seem to be excited for L4D2, on the whole. Stark contrast to the general feeling when it was first announced.

Hyped:

Starcraft 2
Starcraft 2
Diablo 3
Starcraft 2

Don't care about *in comparison*
*.*

Looking forward to:

ODST
Left 4 Dead 2

Mildly looking forward to:

COD: Modern Warfare 2
Bioshock 2... maybe. I dunno. Loved the first so will be checking this out, though it looks a bit iffy right now. We'll see.

I have no idea when games like Mass Effect 2, Borderlands, etc and the like are coming out, but for now these are about it.

So what games are you guys looking forward to for the rest of the year and next? What ones do you just not give a **** about?

Games for 2009:

Uncharted 2
COD 6
Assassin's Creed II
Left 4 Dead 2

This is what we're supposed to be excited for? Killin' assorted ethnic dudes: the sequel, Michael Bay Game: The Sequel, Stealthy Suave Looking Guy in Robes: Now in Renaissance Italy and Left 4 Dead: Now Featuring Melee Weapons and Southern Accents.

What an intriguing year for gamers everywhere. Must buy, can't wait to pay $60 for each and every one of these gems.

Hype:
Borderlands
Batman: Arkam Asylum
Left 4 Dead 2
STALKER: Call of Pripyat
Mass Effect 2

Interested:
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
BioShock 2
Diablo 3
Starcraft 2
Crysis 2
Assassin's Creed 2

Don't care:
Halo: ODST
Any Guitar Hero/Rock Band game
Anything to do with the Wii

PS:

Has been out for months, and is amazing.

Hyped:
Starcraft2
Diablo3
HL: Ep3

Interested:
CoD: Modern Warfare 2
STALKER: Call of Pripyat

Don't care:
Anything Halo-related
Left4Dead 2

Hyped for:

Deus Ex 3
Half-Life 2: Episode Three
Portal 2 (?)
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

Considering getting:

Assassins Creed 2
Modern Warfare 2
James Cameron's Avatar: The Game
Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight

Has been out for months, and is amazing.

Well it isn't out on PSN yet, which is where I would have been getting it but I tried the PC demo and didn't like it :|

Perhaps Rage. (It's coming out next year though, isn't it?)

Maybe Borderlands if the reviews are spectacular.

Valve still has some more work to show me before I am convinced to shell out 50-60 bucks for L4D2. We'll see.

Other than that... there's nothing I'm really hyped for.

How is it not COD6? It's the sixth main title so why is it not? blah blah blah.

bottom line is, world at war is NOT COD 5 and MW 2 is NOT COD 6
also, COD 7 is a blah blah blah

You're seriously wrong. If what you say is true, blah blah blah

If the next COD has a working title of COD 7 then the previous game must be COD6 what is the previous game? blah blah

Maybe the phrase "world at war" us not equivalent, but the whopping great blah blah blah

This is the lamest argument ever. I feel lame for quoting it. Wasn't there another thread where you guys argued about this incessantly?

If I was Nurizeko, I'd tell you all to get girlfriends.

Hyped for:
The upcoming Valve games
Scribblenauts
Dragon Age (slightly)

Couldn't care less about:
Upcoming Blizzard games
Upcoming generic shooter sequels

Pretty Much..

Well don't buy those games then. Duh.

There's all sorts of decent looking games on the way - for the first time in a while most tastes should be catered for over the coming year.

I totally forgot I'm hyped for Gran Turismo 5!

Hyped:
STALKER: Call of Pripyat
ODST
Reach
Assassin's Creed 2

Interested:
L4D2
Batman Arkham Asylum

Don't care:
Starcraft2
Diablo3
Anything Blizzard

Are you god damn kidding me, I'm the only one in here who mentioned Scribblenauts!?

Probably most hyped for Mass Effect 2 having just replayed the first game for a retrospective review. Seems from the trailers that they've added quite a bit to the game in terms of what you can do, so I'm looking forward to finding out what's changed as well as progressing the overall storyline further.

Next up I'd say Alpha Protocol, which is undoubtedly one of the worst game titles ever, however its an RPG, and its a spy game so its ticking a couple of Kad boxes right from the off. The footage seen isn't particularly amazing when it comes to the faces, but I've some faith that Obsidian can produce something that will at least serve as a decent appetiser until ME2 turns up next year.

Finally Borderlands. Principally the art style interests me as well as the idea of near infinite gun combos. I get the impression that despite the RPG tag its mainly going to centre around 'Go here and shoot them in the head' missions, rather than anything cerebrally challenging, however dumb fun can be worthwhile occasionally.

Games I don't get the hype for? Dragon Age. It just looks like the sort of game a bunch of people who'd only been brought up on D&D would come up with. So much cliché riddled hokey fantasy that I just can't seem me giving a damn about, even though given it being a Bioware release I'd really like to.

I'm not really hyped for anything, but I'm interested in Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age (shouldn't this be coming out?), Guild Wars 2, and The Old Republic. Starcraft 2 should have been released already so that's pretty much completely dropped off my meter.

I don't understand the hype for Left 4 Dead 2 at all... or Diablo 3. Yeah Diablo II was cool... ten years ago. So far it just looks like a World of Warcraft version of that... so pretty much trash. Oh, and I'll be shocked if Borderlands doesn't flop.

When the words "successor to Baldur's Gate" are uttered, people take notice.

More fool them tbh. Personally I think The Witcher signalled the deathknell of all of that 'All Orcs are evil' style of fantasy, and an opportunity for the genre to move on. I doubt that Dragon Age will be a bad game, but thematically it looks like something from yesteryear and I'm basically done with that sort of thing.

So did you read anything other then post #1 or what?

Ok GG hl2.net search function, only gave me my post when I searched for scribble.

****ing retarded tbh.

I was about to scold you but you're already scolded yourself.

...

I forgot Super Mario Galaxy 2, what the ****?

None except the next Half-Life package. COD-Call of Duty(terrible game, dam consoles)...

One game doesn't make a console itself bad.

Anyway Im looking forward to Cod MW:LOL: and the new OF2: Dragon Rising. Also the GTA IV DLC.

I am kind of excited for AVP, no clue when that comes out however.

To be honest, we know nothing about the plot as of yet, so it's a bit early to judge. Look at the trailers for Mass Effect 1. The story looked crap from those, yet it turned out to be epic.

Games I'm hyped for:

Borderlands
Half-Life Episode 3
Portal 2
Crackdown 2 <(anyone heard anything about this sequel yet?)

Games I plan on getting in the near future:

Borderlands
Fallout 3 GoTY edition

Game I used to be hyped for:

BG&E 2 R.I.P :(

Games I couldn't care less about:

anything CoD *mediocre shooter/mediocre franchise*
anything Halo *mediocre shooter/ mediocre franchise*
anything L4D *mediocre zombie apocalypse sim*
anything Assassin's Creed *mediocre stealth/mediocre genre*

Not you too, BHC.

Not... you... too... :(

Don't get me wrong, I'm psyched for it and all--but it's not exactly my most anticipated game of the year. If the depth of gameplay in the first Left 4 Dead is indicative of anything it really won't be anything immensely special.

It's good fun and everything, but Zombie Shoot 'em Ups, particularly ones with little to no progression or narrative depth, provide the most momentary satisfaction possible. The L4D IP has never been all that appealing to me, I'd rather Valve tried something a bit more sophisticated. No, I'm not part of the boycott "OMG REPACKAGED BS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DLC"--and no, I'm certainly not part of the "PROMISE TO BUY DIS GAME CUS VALVE ROOLZ" group, I simply have no interest whatsoever in purchasing the game when it launches. I'll wait for it to go down in price.

How can you go wrong combining zombies, dismemberment and frying pans?

Games for 2009:

COD 6
Uncharted 2
Left 4 Dead 2
Halo 3 ODST
Batman Arkham Asylum (want but i can wait for the 1st price drop to $40 or less)
http://www.gohastings.com/browse/GAME/Nao/56/Ns/p_rank/Ne/2464/N/2459+4294941578/departmentName/GAME.uts LOL! I can get the game used right now for $41 on that site with the '321321' promo all ready and this game just dropped

Games in the near future (not including games we know almost nothing about like fallout new vegas, agent etc) :

Bioshock 2
God of War 3
Half Life 2 Episode 3
The Last Guardian
Portal 2
Borderlands
Brutal Legend
Final Fantasy XIII
Pixel Junk Monsters PSP
Ratchet and Clank PS3

Games I don't get the hype for:

DJ Hero
Rockband Beetles (overplayed songs)

I may have some under near future because I don't look at the release dates until around my birthday.
