To me, Nothing beats a Good ol Shotgun like the one from the Original DOOM. Old fashioned wooden butt and a great sound.

Weapon sounds are Soooooooo Important to me. Constantly editing CS for my favorite shots.

Yeah, a shotgun is usually a favourite in games. Good weapon sounds, music and good voice acting is usually essential for me. Not to mention gameplay. The usual stuff.

My favorite perks are any part of a game where I get to kill a lot and look cool Fabulous!

I like to take Skilled and Gifted. Probably hurts in the long run, but the stat boost is like woah.

Oh wait, wrong Perks.

Anyway, I love it when I'm playing a game and something happens and I'm like "Holy crap, I had no idea that was even possible with today's technology!" Of course, I never have any idea of what's possible or not, so I get thrilled easily. Like when I first played HL2, the part where you had to throw away the trash before the Combine guy let you pass. I thought that was awesome. :( I just always think in terms of technology from 10 years ago, I guess.

cs_militia. Loved playing it. Fabulous!

:D :D :D

Personally I go for a high ambience and storyline, real atmosphere in a game. Examples: Starcraft, Half-Life.

When good teamwork actually occurs, a la BF2

or the small things

blowing up bananas and watermelons on Italy

I always liked the ability to rename things, like soldiers or items. One of the little things I loved about X-Com, that game was just fabulous.

- Good atmosphere, like the Ravenholm chapter in Half-Life 2.

- Good sound, especially good weapon sounds if it's a first person shooter. Music isn't really something I care so much for, but its fun if the game got good music, especially music that fits the level or game well.

- Powerful weapon with a nasty sound. The Two Barrelled Shotgun in Resurrection of Evil is a good example.

- Good gameplay is of course my main priority, and graphics aren't SOOO important for me but it's always nice if the game offer beautiful graphics (Shadow of the Colossus, Half-Life 2 etc. etc.).

- Music, I always have high opinions for games that have very good music.

- Emotional, not many games even try to evoke any kind of emotion from the players but when you find one that does it at least once it is always welcome.

- Good story, not thrown on just so you can say it has a story. The story needs to be well done and help in evoking emotion.

- No cramming, I hate it when developers don't spend or aren't given enough time to properly make the game from beggining to end. Think KotOR 2 or Zelda the Wind Waker.

- Unintentional mini-games. I love it when a stupid little activity involving certain features of the game can suddenly open up entirely new things to do even though the developers never thought or meant for it to happen.

- Games where certain items/weapons can have special meaning to the player and don't have to be thrown out in favour of something better. The best example of this came from me playing the Neverwinter Nights expansion pack Hordes of the Underdark. Near the beginning you can pick up a special 1-handed sword that can talk to you since it has the soul of a fallen warrior imbued within it. I loved this sword and actually developed a very special connection to it that really made my character so much better, not only did I have such a great personal connection to it but I never had to throw the sword away for something better because over time he could upgrade himself with new abilities and I could also pay to upgrade him myself.

These are just some of the perks I love.

The feeling of adventure and suspense, atmosphere, music, teamwork and the feeling of kicking butt in style and with power! Playing games at night time with the lights off makes the experience even better for me.

I like a game with immersion. Immersion to me is the freedom to explore, easy to master controls to help any action you encounter pass smoothly, and not be some random button bash fest.

Story too, adds to immersion. A good story should grab your attention and make you want to continue the game.
Customisation to your character is also a nice feature which I hope to see in a lot of next-gen games

I like to have decent unlockables that I can use practically, you know, instead of having finished everything in the game.

The CoD 2 shotgun sound is also lovely. Not any of this lengthy barrel and some-much-gauge crap, just pull the trigger, hear that lovely hollow "THUMP" and see your enemy grab for his stomach.

I love it.

Decent voice acting.
Compare HL2 to Res Evil 1

good AI
Far Cry when things worked (they actually tried to flank and find you in the foliage sometimes - other times it was xray vision for the npcs, none for me :( )
HL2 at the end of Sandtraps and in Minerva (open levels/ multiple indoor routes)
FEAR occasionally brilliant, more often very stupid (would use cover but then stay there so i would just hammer shots into the exposed top of their head - arghhhh!)

bf2 with a decent squad who follow the squad leaders orders and are relatively good is teh pwn *remembers the bf2 demo days with all the hl2netters* ;(

scoring the winner in the last minute in pro evo:E

Having the choice of stealth or full brute force, you choose stealth. You get rappeled from a helicopter, as you are being rappeled, you turn on your stealth camo, making you nearly invisible to the naked human eye. You stop at the mid floor and cut open the window carefully with a laser cutter, then climb into it. You sneak around the building a bit, deciding to keep low profile, and gather some intelligence to help you along the way. The enemy is content on an assault, but, they never expect you.

That makes my day, I wish games had that kind of gameplay though, I mean cyberpunk style too. (Perhaps, think Ghost in the Shell style)

Hmm... weapon sounds/looks, cool abilities (like the jump kick in FEAR), customization (upgrading, renaming characters, etc.), and neat-o enemies all come to mind.

try grabbing a copy of tenchu for the ps it isnt exactly modern but the whole game revolves around the theme of maintaing the essence of surprise.
as for perks i love a weapon with good splash damage it could be anything from a rocket launcher to spider mines it just has to have a big radius ;) ..perfect for smoking out those campers.
