I definitely agree with Samon. Part of the reason I'm such a HL2 fan is the variety.
I mean, one minute you're running from the cops. The next, you're gunning it down canals thriving with combine forces in a cobbled-together buggy. Then you're making your way through a town stinking of death, blowing zombies in half with sawblades. Then you're making a big journey down a coast in a buggy, fighting off whatever the Combine throws at you. After taking down multiple biomechanical gunships, you're playing a deadly parody of "don't touch the ground". Then the forces are turned, and you're controlling a horde of angry insectoids up a beach full of soldiers and mounted guns. After a nasty showdown, you're using your insect horde to storm an old prison teeming with enemy forces. Then, you break out, and find yourself back in City 17, leading a squad of worshipful rebels against all the soldiers. After taking out an enormous combine energy weapon, you ditch your squadmates and take on several enormous deadly synths, giant biomechanical tri-legged spiders armed to the teeth: Striders. When you finally manage to make it past all of them, you find yourself alone, sneaking into enemy HQ for one last time. After a half-hour-long ride, you end up with only your supergrav-gun for defence. Then, after killing wave after wave of combine, you end up face to face with Doctor Breen, the sinister overlord whose propaganda has been flooding the city. After a brief chase, you have to take down the enooooormous teleporter he's in (along with all the enemy troops intent on stopping you). You succeed, and G-Man intervenes, freezing time and taking you out of an enormous explosion... but for how long? Only he knows.
^That sounds pretty f*cking varied, if you ask me.
