Another preview article to sink your teeth into; GameSpot has released a new article on Episode 2 and Team Fortress 2. Covering the gameplay aspects of EPI2 and its importance to the plot - as well as introducing the Muscle Car like a new toy, jumping over many aspects you have probably read before. Then onto TF2 again, a lot of the info here is just the same stuff you have read time and time before, but its a nice overview. Although the comment about the Stats side of things is something different. </br>[br]

Thanks to the Asuka / Raziel-Jcd paradox for the heads up.

That G-Man picture has me intrigued.

I've never seen him posed like that or in that style of environment.

The G-Man obviously has something to do with aperture science then...

As programmer Charles Brown said, Team Fortress 2 is the "culmination of 10 years of multiplayer knowledge" at Valve, which is an impressive thought considering we're talking about the creators of some of the most popular multiplayer games ever made, including Counter-Strike.
This quote struck me as a bit uninformed.
- Valve didn't make CS, they bought out the people who did.
- More importantly, TF2 is nothing like CS in style or gameplay. The level design is completely different, the weapons and accuracy are completely different, the speeds at which the players move and the movement styles they can accomplish are, completely different. Even if, for some reason, the CS boys were brought onto TF2 to help out, they wouldn't have experience designing for the same type of gameplay so it's fairly irrelevant. Much more important and pertinent is that the same people who made the TFC mod were drafted in to work on TF2.
By scavenging metal in the form of weapons recovered from the battlefield, the engineer can build sentry guns
Interesting. Gives Engys more of an incentive to leave their cubbyholes at the flagroom.

Getting slightly more excited about TF2. Hopefully I won't need a new PC to play it.

scout - "armed primarily with a shotgun" huh?

I know gun model for the scout changed from the original preview, but I thought it was definitely a nail gun.

Basically I was trying to say it was a good read - but neither correct nor really new. Nice Pictures tho...

can anybody tell me what tfc map is in that tf2 pic or is it a new map?

oh and that car looks great, better than the buggy

also what is going on with gman, it looks like a tv screen but it looks like he's off the top and the left, Is it a projection?

Wow. This last screen with G-man is really something big and new. I wonder what's going on there...

It's gonna be totally ace when this comes out.

That G-Man picture is just beyond awesomeness. Wow.

Also nice to see some pictures taken with high graphical settings compared to those fugly we've seen previously.

WTF!?
Link always redirect me to site of Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs! :O
This G-man picture is very, very shocking!

The link on the main page appears to be broken, it's putting an extra 'http:// ' in front of the url. Works fine from here tho'.

Weird.

i have to agree. the setting in the gman photo looks very portal like. although, i cannot understand what a lone monitor is doing there. has he decided to adopt mac, or is there a desktop below the table (ok this is really lame)

OMFG!!!!oneone!!! THE G-MAN KNOWS HOW TO SIT IN A CHAIR!

Anyone else think the walls in the gman pic look a bit Black Mesa-ish?

Hmmm, I haven't followed a lot of Episode 2 to avoid spoilers..... but who's Cryus Vance?

I hope to god I haven't overlooked something ridiculous. Although if I have, Ep II sounds great.

Cryus is the new guy, Magnusson. They just got the name mixed up.

Hmm, so the G-man gives Gordon a nipple massage. Next time, warn us about the picture before spoiling intricate plot details. Thanks.

Ooh... my... god! After almost ten years of mystery we'll get to know some intriguing information about G-Man! And as you guys said, this looks very much look good 'ol Black Mesa. Is there anyone who has any ideas how this picture fits in the timeline in Episode Two? Im sure I have no logicial ideas, and I'm sure the real scene will not be either :P I'm really looking forward seeing how Valve will pull this one of. The most interesting teaser since Episode One was released IMO

it looks more like the portal area to me. wait, it doesnt look like any place, just some gman headquearters...

When I saw it, the first thing that came screaming out at me was Aperture Science.

I fail to see the connection with BM as well. If anything, the roof almost looks similar to something out of the citadel (but only very loosely). Now that I think about it, I can also see the resemblance to portal style architecture. The door leading outside also gives me the impression that it may be to a balcony, but thats really just mere speculation.

It's interesting to see the large G-man image in the background. At first I thought it was just being shown on the screen, but then I realised it extends beyonds its scope. It reminds me of the beginning of HL2 where the screens warps from showing the g-man to you being on the train.

To be honest, I skipped most of the preview on ep2 because it seemed rather spoiler-like. For instance I don't recall actually knowing what the data stolen from the combine was for at the end of episode one, but they gave that away.

Didn't see the roof (shitty monitor at work :hmph:)first thing I thought was the Black Mesa entrance in Half Life, the whole turquoise colour scheme. Just me then eh? :cheese:

Curse you! I'm trying to avoid spoilers and then I see the g-man sitting in an office on the front page. HL2.net, you're making being spoiler-free so hard.

Didn't see the roof (shitty monitor at work :hmph:)first thing I thought was the Black Mesa entrance in Half Life, the whole turquoise colour scheme. Just me then eh? :cheese:

Your right. It looks very similiar to the beginning of Anomalous Materials, with the desk, the computer screen and the big monitor on the wall.

That new car looks superb. Great shot with it in the water as well. The video of the bridge collapsing is bloody awesome. Looks impressive every time I see it. It's also great to hear (not that we didn't already know some of them) about the improvements to the Source engine for EP2. This really needs to happen because it's looking a little flat in comparison to some of the newer & upcoming games.

Does anyone get the feeling that that pic of the Gman almost looks like the entrance to the Anomalous Materials- If Valve put effort in recreating it in Source. The Big Screen in the background, Barneys security reception desk. Even the entrance to the hallway on the right hand side, though with a door this time ;)

For an extra insight to this reception, there is what appears to be a concealed US flag top-right, and the ceiling has an abstarct construct, akin to 60-70's decor.

Is the water in the screenshot of the car a poly mesh, like with very basic 2D fluid dynamics ? i want nice water !

I have a sneaking suspicion that the the girl in Portal meets the G-Man at the end. Either that, your contract is explained to you and you learn some big things about that mysterious "man"! :D *Oh shit! Why didn't I think of this before?!? G-Man uses portals and the labratory uses portals all the time. The G-Man hired the girl because of her talents no doubt about it. **On another note I think I know what's in his suitcase. It's a prototype of the portal gun. He was trying to negotiate a contract for the scientists to use it. It's a top security device in a suitcase guarded by a sinister alien! Probably smugled it no doubt. Look at the Episode 1 plot and you will find he is a sinister villain too btw.

I don't see how it looks like Black Mesa. :P

I don't think it's supposed to be BM but maybe it's supposed to be reminiscent? In terms of layout, placement of the desk and monitor, large screen above them and shape of the adjacent corridor, it looks strikingly similar to the reception area to Anamolous Materials, right at the beginning of Half-Life - the G-Man sitting where a Barney is sitting in the original scene, telling you that you're late and that there was a system crash about 20 mins ago.
