Gamespot finally lost their mind...

the sims isnt even a ****ing strategy game.

go die gamespot.

I've played The Sims, it is a strategy game. You think you just press buttons to make your sim do stuff? No, you gotta plan the day. In fact, with my Sim, I could never NOT press some command because he had to go pee, eat, snack, play comp, watch tv, sleep, hug friends, phone, work, pay taxes, and read all in ONE day to keep him alive and well.

Wow, and I thought IGN was bad. The Sims 2 is a freaking RPG more than anything else ... and how the hell is it better than Rome: Total War!?

Ohhhh God no.....what a bunch of sell outs. Ya it'll sell more then RTW but it won't be half as good.

RTW all the way!!!!!!!ONE11

I rest my case. Gamespot sucks. FFS dude, The Sims isn't really a strategy game. And even if it was, Rome: Total War owns the living crap out of it. Now I understand why they gave that 'apathetic' preview of HL2. They're morons.

I enjoyed The Sims and from what I've seen of the second, I'd say it's probably worthy of the honor...

When you play Total Wars series, get back to me.

Whoa, it's that good, huh? :p

You knew I hadn't played it when I didn't even tell you! Psychic! OMG! :O

Sims 2 looks really interesting. You all just hate it because everyone says they hate it. Personally I think it was a good choice as the best strategy of E3. The Sims 2 is a more of a strategy game than an RPG. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

No I hate the sims cause its a crapy overrated game that gets boring after an hour of play.

im not flamming u, but im not just going with the crowd.

I've never seen the appeal of the Sims games... so, you're down on your life and wish you could do better? No problem, now you can live real life in the Sims! Become a successful (insert whatever here) and live a full life decorating your house and feeding yourself. YAY!

Oh wait, why don't you just get off your ass and start making your own life better and feeding yourself instead of pretending to in a video game. You know, I'm sure people plan out their days in the Sims religiously but it makes you wonder what they plan for their real days, play the Sims for hours and hours perhaps?

Urgh... gaming will forever be tainted by the Sims. Hooray for Lamespot!

You don’t seem to understand something… I don’t have anything against Sims 2, I played the first one for two months and it was fun. The thing is, it is not that great of strategy game, compared to this title: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/rometotalwar/index.html

Total War series always were underrated, they are much better than Blizzard RTS games for example, they are everything strategy fans will ever want from this genre. Sad thing is, it loses to Sims 2… and why?

Since when do I have to hate my own life to play the Sims? Everyone has played the Sims for atleast a month. That doesn't mean we're depressed and can't handle our own lives, it means we felt like playing a game. Thats like saying I play Half-Life because I couldn't become an employee for some research facility so I play Half-Life instead. Maybe thats your case but it isn't mine.

Well, its GameSpot's opinion and doesn't mean its true. Who cares if it didn't win "The best Strategy" at E3. If you enjoy it when it comes out thats all the matters, not what awards it won on some game site before it came out. Blizzard isn't that good at making RTS games in my opinion but thats just what I think. I'll try the total war game when it comes out.

Well pressure, It's one thing to play a scientist who shoots aliens and corrupt military personel in a game, it's another to play a game where you have to feed yourself, and live a virtual life. The concepts cannot be compared... I can't legally go get an MP7 and start shooting aliens and military, and sometimes scientists can I? I can however, go change my clothes, eat something, go excersice and hang out with my friends right? The two concepts are not comparable.

Sims is a simulation of everyday life, Half-Life is an interactive story with action and larger-than-life characters where you can do things you wouldn't be able to do in reality.

Granted, some people may find simulated "life" to be entertaining, but I think it hardly beats an original concept and a game such as Rome: Total War in the strategy department none-the-less.

I can see the trend in gaming where more and more games like the Sims are being developed, games like "Playboy" where the content is nothing more than sex and more sex (not to mention the 200000 Sims games and expansion packs), games that are just cashing in on the ignorance of the general public and appealing to base and stupid concepts like Reality TV and to tell you the truth, I will stop being a gamer if I ever see games like the Sims and Playboy outnumber the good games like HL2 or R:TW.

I expect next year's E3 to have some sort of reality show-based game. "The Sims: Survivor Island" where you can eat worms and live like a savage by choice. Yes... a great trend indeed, Gamespot may be giving us a taste of what is to come... enjoy gaming while you can because if this trent keeps up HL2 might be the last good game we'll ever see.

Eh, they should have picked Warcraft 3 the Frozen Throne for a 2nd year in a row. I'm still playing it. :E

i dunno why... but ur post made me laugh :E

The Sims is not a bad game...or even a bad strategy game. But The Total War games, not to mention the upcoming Advance Wars game are better. Oh, mustn't forget Ground Control 2...

And...Mechassault 2 as best shooter...yeah right. Half-Life 2? Stalker? Bloody Gamespot.

The Sims is in no way a strategy game, you may have to use some strategy to micromanage your sims, but in the end it's a simulator. They simply stuck The Sims 2 and The Movies in the strategy category because they couldn't think of where else to put them. Why they actually chose it above R:TW I can only guess. Hype perhaps?

IMO the sims2 is great but there are a hell of a lot of bertter strategy games that deserve credtit for their accomplishments over a sequel to a game that has now beem moved to consoles :x

I'm looking forward to Sims 2, but I'm not expecting much of it.

The first game had me hooked for a month, maybe two, after that I couldn't touch the thing. After it lost it's appeal it instantly became the most boring game ever, I hate games like that. But what I REALLY hate about it was all the expansions. Fecking money-grubbing EA.

Anyway I haven't ruled Sims 2 out yet... but yeah, putting it as best strategy game was a little silly.

Where's my ****ing gun, someone has to pay for this.

You people have no idea how angry I am, I'm the kind of person who really really hates socialistic mass market gobshite like this. Why the **** do people think running a pretend beings life is facinateing, how can you derive pleasure out of seeing two computer generated entitys haveing a chat or takeing a shit. Whats the big deal with burning one of them to death? surely B&W is the game for you if you want to burn people to death.

The only thing that has ever interested me in the slightest about the sims is the abuility to build a house and that get's excruciatingly painfull after 10 minutes of listening to the worst music to ever grace my PC. With the sound turned off it becomes mind numbingly boreing after 20 minutes and seems entirely pointless.

As if the fact that every time i look at the top 10 selling games for what seems the past decade I see that the sims is holding at least 3 of the top spots is bad enough, all the flea bitten half arsed mass market driven journalists brown nose the bastard calling it the best stratedgy of E3.

The level of indignation and bullshit has now reached unacceptable proportions, if I ever see the journalist that thought the Sims2 is better than RTW I'll curb the stupid ****.

i didn't even wait for the page to load...saw Best Strategy Game and The Sims 2 and killed it straight away. that's just dumb. Rome: Total War is a far better game, both strategically and tech wise.

i think maybe gamespot are trying to be different and not following everyone else. but making The Sims 2 best strategy game?! crazy crazy crazy.

I think the only dispute here is whether the Sims is actually a strategy game or not. Gamespot chose to categorize it as such, and seeing as how it was one of the big hits of the show I'm not surprised to see it take top spot.
While Total War will likely win the hearts of the real strategy fans, The Sims appeals to just about EVERYONE, thus its massive success.

Sims 2 deserved some sort of award/awards, but definately not Best Strategy game.

Gamespot are a bunch of twats.

Where exactly is the strategy in cleaning up the mess from your Sim who had the brilliant idea to piss on the floor again? It's hardly a game, the only fun things were building the house and killing your Sims and their friends (I slaughtered the neighbourhood by locking them up in a 1x1 room :D). I can work, piss, shower, sleep in real life, I'm not looking for it in a game. The game had absolutely no purpose.

The Sims 2 looks more fun than the first, and it seems to have an actual purpose but really, more worthy of an award than the awesome RTW? Gamespot should wash its mouth with soap, or rather sulfuric acid.

And then there's the issue of making Mechassault 2 the best shooter. What. Were. They. Thinking? COME ON!
It had competition of games like FEAR and Halo 2 (why is Halo 2 there and HL2 not while they both appeared for a second time? Console fanboys) and they pick Mechassault 2? I think I speak for many when I say: What the F*CK?

The Sims 2 looks awesomely fun. I even played the first one, only to cheat, build big houses and set fire to them, sims and all. :D

The second one looks even more fun, c'mon you have to see the potential for bigger fires and more ways to kill sims.

Ever since september 30 - gamespot has this grudge against hl2 for not reaching it's release date. I've seen that - but they didn't even nominate it even in one frickin category, at least they mentioned doom 3 somewhere (absence or something), it's as though hl2 is non-exsistent. True, you couldn't expect them to win an award - but what about a little old nomination?

Anyway, don't worry too much. Star wars KOTOR and COD were literally non-exsistent from every review on E3 2003, but heck they won the most GOTY awards.

The sims was awesome until i ran out of ways to kill them. I still remember the first time i made my sim swim, then sold the pool ladder and watched him drown. :D

Has anyone looked at their criteria? Did they count games from last year's show as highly? Or include nonconsole games?

RTW so completely owns all other strat games ever in the history of games...

it beats chess FFS...

as gayspot say the sims 2 is better....

:x

Click the link on my sig to see why i can declare the above and not be kidding, also Gamershell have the latest trailer for DL.

Agreed.

Personally I love Medieval Total War, especially the big battles in the game. Also the music that starts when you are moving your huge army towards the enemy...

You know their awards aren't necessarily based upon merit, but rather upon interest. Hell The Sims 2 made it into Time for chrissake.

that's exactly somewhat what I was trying to say in my earlier post. Did you see their nominees for best pc game? F.E.A.R was the second choice - cmon they're basing their verdict on a 3 minute footage?

Also, when the Valve E3 presentation was mentioned on Gamespot, all they talked about was the CS:Source movie and not the HL2 presentation.

I think they're also pissed that they only got 15 min playtime in the handson preview while IGN and Gamespy got 30.

Best Action Adventure Game
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3 (PC)

I agree...............

where is HL2 ?
