Gamespot Release Discussion

Craig Beers is the man I love gamespot that was a great read.

This is the kind of well-thought out, mature delay Editorial that Fragmaster cannot write.

There's one or two other editorials in Gamespotting this week that at least mention HL2.

Craig writes really interesting material. Fagmaster can't get close to this guy.

Just a note, even these forums are more popular than gamespots forums, they have NO community.

Better than Fragmaster yes, but still nothing particularly new or interesting.

That is exactly what I posted here earlier on some thread (don't remember which). But no, no one would agree... I prevail... I knew it was plausable that Valve was just doing this release date is a mystery thing to publicise it self on forums and such... "Word of mouth" my brotha,,, "Word of mouth" is an incredibly strong tool!

Yep, this guy owns Fragmaster. He takes a very objective approach to his writing and doesn't make any speculations, he just tells the truth. fragmaster's crap is full of opinions.

"Look at any forum. Half-Life 2 is like every other topic. These people unwittingly become free marketing tools for Vivendi."

-Doesn't he do the same thing by writing an article about it for Gamespot?

"They knew that Nvidia hadn't released new drivers yet and would be at a disadvantage."

-VALVe knew about the Nvidia drivers but chose to go with public versions instead of a beta driver. Had VALVe used beta drivers, Nvidia would have accused them of using unfinalized drivers. Even with the new detonator drivers the FX series isn't seeing much improvement.

"But Valve is only a developer; the game will never be put into production without the publisher, Vivendi Universal Games."

-ONLY the developer?!? I got news for this guy... the developer is the one who does 99% of the work. A publisher is merely a hired printing press. Let's not forget that VALVe is self funded and doesn't rely on VU to pay their salaries.

"By not announcing a definitive release date, threads everywhere ask questions and draw in readers."

-VALVe has stated more than 3 times that the release date is still Sept. 30th. That date might change, but it's nothing like abstaining from a "definitive" answer.

I like the read just because it's about HL2 :) I just think this guy doesn't give VALVe enough credit.

valve CANT relese the game without Vivendi. because they cant PRINT THE GAME UP without them. it doesnt matter what valve does, if Vivendi says its a xmas title, its a xmas title.

I think its because of all of this nay-saying and speculation, but I don't feel like its coming out on the 30th...I'm not sweating in anticpation.

But think about it, just 8 days. I think I'll keep believing Gabe, I mean, he left microsoft right? he's not completely evil, why would he just lie to the HL2 community.

8 Days!!!!!!!!!!!

im just praying for a sept30th box release.. im sure the steam version will be done for the 30th.

Do you understand what Steam is? Do you understand that if you buy HL2 over Steam, there is no physical disk? There is no manual? There is, in fact, absolutely nothing to "print"?

The only reason Valve might not be able to release over steam early is contract.

Tell me about it.

And why did Fox have to go, and axe Family Guy, too? They're like the two best shows I've seen since Simpsons.

Agreed.

I've sent him a quick e-mail, just for fun.

"Actually, I find the lack of press releases from Vivendi quite unsurprising,
if you go and check VUGames press releases you'll find no mention of
Half-Life 2. Not even in the press release referring to E3.
http://www.vugames.com/corporate_news.do

And if you go by Vivendi's release dates the game is coming out on Feburary
2004, November 2003, September 2003 and countless other dates. All of these
dates come from Vivendi reps.

Which is why we treat Gabe's word as gospel. It's, at the very least,
consistent.

Feath"
