Gamespot review predictions

I'm just hoping it scores better than Far Cry. They gave that game an amazingly high score for how bad it was.

Wasn't this discussed before?

Well anyway, assuming the review will be made by the same people that previewed hl2, it won't get a score above 9 I'm afraid.

...Gamespot gave Far Cry a 9.2/10.

edit: whoa wtf why is my post here

im guessing it will get something in the high 8s low 9s..

gamespot's staff seem to think that hl2 is not up to snuff

Gamespot will give
Half Life 2 PC a 9.0
Half Life 2 Console a 9.2

i hate this anti-gamespot air that goes around this site, just b/c a game doesn't get a 9.5 everyday doesn't mean they have something against all the games they review, i like their low scores, it shows that they don't throw around the 9.0+ rateing like ign does, and my prediction is that it will get a 9.4 from them

well their score is much more reasonable then ours.... you cant have a fan of half life review halflife 2 in an imparial way...

plus, HL2 might only be a 8/10 game, it might just be another far cry, good graphics, bad story

i reckon they shall be more objective when they get a full review, they were probably feeling hard done by about something, maybe they wanted an exclusive play through and Valve said no.

We shall have to wait and see

i remember that gamespot flame thread right after they previewed their build of hl2, it wasn't all that negative, they just stated they didn't have enough to really judge how the game is going to be, and just b/c they didn't automatically think it was amazing like ign, and gamespy, people hated them for it, it was one of the most useless threads on this site imo

I'm expecting Gamespot to have a review score above 9.

And for those of you who think HL2 will come out in Summer...IT'S NOT SUMMER YET PEOPLE!! Summer offically starts next monday or tuesday.

wOOt!

I think you meant PC =9.2 and console=9.0 ? :O

My pred:

HALFLIFE2 will get 9.5 or over

as long as you really like a game then wtf does it matter what gamespot rates it?

it's beyond my why people waste their time complaining that their favorite game got a lower score than they think it deserves. it's like they think it somehow reflects bad taste on their part for buying it in the first place or something, so they get all defensive. if you like it so much, then go play it or something. don't waste time bitching about it all the time.

btw, just to stay on topic, i'd assume it only gets above a 9.0 if it truely blows everyone away. otherwise the reviewers are just gonna complain that it was overhyped the whole time.

that's nonsense the article definitly took an negative perspective, i forget the exact method, i am not that bothered anymore if i was then but i remember the article using highly flawed reasons for its criticism.

I predict Game Spot will award Half-Life 2 with a 9.6.

And No. Far Cry is not a bad game, Aphal.

I really thought it was incredibly overrated. Wait, why do you type like that?

It was more like an incredibly awesome game. How could someone, such as yourself, not like this game? Oh well...

...Type like what? If you mean when I italicize, bold, and underline certain words, it's because I want to emphasize and stress those particular words. Sometimes, I italicize and bold words that are important or when it's a game or someone's name. Don't mind it, it's just something I do often.

Half life 2 : 10/10

We don't even have a comment because we're too busy playing the game.

I dunno, but who cares? I don't care what anyone else thinks about the game, if I love it, and they don't, so what if they don't?

And Gamespot got only 15 minutes to play with HL2 (IGN and Gamespy got more time), so that may explain why they were not convinced with its quality. But yeah, they ignored it a bit, also at E3, reporting a short CS:S presentation but not mentioning the awesome one from HL2? But again: who cares?

i agree, i usually find gamespot to be more biased towards consoles anyways so i just use ign for most of my pc news and previews.

Yeah ever since Gamespot went the way of the subscriber I haven't really trusted it. I've found its reviews fairly biased and the fact that I can't get a video without going through so many tedious subscription screens really pisses me off...I don't even look there anymore.

Let them make a biased review of HL2, when all the other major gaming sites and magazines post up their amazing reviews of HL2 (most likely HL2 will be amazing and will deserve them) then Gamespot will just look bad and lose more credibility.

Of course IMO gamespot will give it a great review but it won't give the game as much praise as most other gaming reviewers, which really isn't all that bad.

I thought Farcry deserved every point Gamespot gave them... the story was a bit contrived and cheesy, but the game was awesome... hell Im busy playing through the game for the tenth time on realistic... I usually play a game once or twice and Im done with it.
I guess Farcry is one of those games you either LOVE or HATE, some people cant stand the movement and the pacing of the game... I love the lush scenery amazing graphics and the awesome AI (yeah its buggy at times, but for the most part its a lot of fun).

Gamespot are not ones to be biased, if the game is up to snuff you can trust Gamespot to give the game its due, if it isnt... well they tank it like a squealer with lead shoes going for a swim with the fishes.

IGN is also a good gaming site that I find has similar tastes as me.

wasn't it one of the zelda games?

It was Legend Of Zelda:OoT, Chronos Cross, Soul Calibur, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 that got a 10/10.

what is good or bad, it's all relative...you can't say far cry is a bad game without actucally having a better game to compare it with. So if u say far cry is bad, name any game that u can buy in the market that is better than far cry and explain why it's better than far cry ( like graphics, story, gameplay, etc). If you ain't able to name a game and explain well, you really suck for calling far cry a bad game and what u say is just full of shit.

Gamespot would have given it that last year, but expect 8.6 at the maximum from them. Ever since sept 30, they suddenly gone anti-hl2 for some reason. Read their E3 2004 game of the show article, clearly the only reason why they gave SC3 the award was because ubisoft is always on time.(no delay)

The game lasted 2 days. End! Bad gamez. I have been playing HL related mods for about 4 years now.

this goes to newbies journey too. HL is a better game than Farcry. Anything with mutliplayer is better than farcry. Anything that last more than 2 days is better than farcry.

@ gamespot, it'll be 9.5
and @ IGN it'll be 9.8
gamespot is always lower

ign has the biggest tendency to overated their games

there's no right or wrong when it comes to someone's personal preference.

it's not a matter of what's better or worse it's a matter of what you like or don't.

someone's personal opinion is not "full of shit"

If they like it, they like it. They if they don't, they don't. Why should it concern you if Gamespot give it a bad review? It's all down to personal taste.

Likewise, gamespot has a tendency to underate games. Does anyone of you think a very good game like Full spectrum warrior deserved 7.7? no. After reading the review - gamespot had evidently rushed up the review in order to remain on schedule. They found the enemy A.I stupid - well it may have been not very amazing but it certainly doesn't compare to that of Hitman contracts - which was awarded 7.6.

I honestly don't care. Internet journalism is poor in comparison to the published print magazine you can buy. Sure, magazines are brilliant either but you can gaurentee that those journalists working for a magazine are better judges then any Jo Schmo writing up a 1337 review online.

Heck, I could write my own reviews, it doesn't mean that I know what I'm talking about. Any website that gave THPS3 10/10 seriously talks out of their arse. It was a good game but not even 9.0. I understand why they gave FarCry such a good score, to highlight the surprising quality of the game in relation to the recent FPS market, but its all contrived nonsense.

If you care this much about some reviewers who aren't even worthy of playing our beloved game, I do worry about you.

I am going to say GameSpot will rate it between a 9.0 and 9.5. They said that there were things in the demo that they played that should have been better. (Weapons For One) IGN said the same. Personally I think Half-Life 2 is going to be great. From the movies we seen it looks good. We are just going to have to patiently wait until the game is released.

The problem people have is that Valve said that they were deliberately keeping the new weapons under wraps, and yet the previewers for some reason complained that there didn't seem to be any new weapons in the game. Either they were being sort of stupid, or they were just searching around for something to complain about.

who cares what a crappy site (personal opinion here, don't try to convince me otherwise) gives HL2? I will play first, read reviews later. If i disagree with the score, oh well, it's still got my vote. and i mostly pay attention to the reader reviews anyway, not the gamespot staff...

Why should it concern you if Gamespot give it a bad review? It's all down to personal taste.

Well, if they give it a bad review, then it might not get as good of sales. Thats, really, the only reason I can think of. If they give it a bad review, it will turn people away from a game that they might love. But, like you said, it doesnt matter. Because, in the end, we're gonna love it :D  cheers

If Gamespot give the game a review thats 9.3 or higher then you can be guaranteed that every other gaming site is likely to give it 9.6 or higher
