No wierd stuff this time please... recreated at SidewinderX143s request.

"This combination offers tremendous synergies as GameSpy and IGN have very complementary strengths," said Mark Jung, IGN's CEO. "GameSpy is the market leader with the PC game audience, game downloads and online gaming technology. IGN is the market leader with the console game audience and in community services such as message boards. Both companies have very strong subscription acquisition and retention programs."

What next?

sry bout the weird stuff before...got carried away..hopefully doesent do it again
but i think its cool they merged...i like it!
:bounce: got nothin much to say..i think its a good idea

yeah but why do you think it's a good idea for them to merge?

i think it's really a case of gamespy and IGN capitalizing on people's ignorance.

gamespy gets installed on lots of people's computers because they're too retarded to click "no, don't install" and find a better program that does the same thing and isn't plastered with advertisements.
if they wanna call that "being the leader in online gaming technology" then i wholeheartedly disagree.

gamespy also = fileplanet, the leader in "exclusive" demos. the leader in pissing everyone off by trying to get you to pay for things that have been free for a long time.

IGN has a subscription thing too...videos and other content that you can't get without a subscription. but that's different...i can find media on a game that isn't on IGN's site...it's more of a choice...like a subscription to a magazine.

i have no comment on IGN's forums...never seen em...never cared. but i know if i wanna talk about games, i don't need to go to IGN's website or pay a subscription to do it (if they even require a subscription to post on the forums)

Speaking of installing clients... IGN's download thingy automatically puts itself into start-up and severely hurts performance... :dozey:

(in my experience)

well i think its good...cuz...ign + gamespy= BEST NEWS SOURCE FOR GAMING!!!!!!

ahhh I remember when gaming sites on the internet were free. Now its pay for forums and guides and wait in line for downloads.

anyone used to go cheatcc.com? They actually are trying to get people to pay for the best cheats now, which is absolutely ridiculous because all you have to do is use google.

I remember when gamespot and ign were free etc - I havn't been to either in over a year now.

I already love IGN, and I go to both GameSpot and IGN almost everyday, and IGN updates a LOT more then GameSpot. I am happy to see IGN combine with GameSpy to make for and even better gaming site.

I subscribed to IGN's service for a year ( I think during the first yearthey offered it.) I don't subscribe anymore and never will again. There will always be ways to get demos and reviews, etc., for free on the internet so why would I want to pay for them.

I hate gamespy , and I semi-dislike IGN because if you ever try to brows their site all you get is fullscreen 'click to continue' ads. The internet is going to become less popular if everything is commercialized like this sht.

I like IGN a lot better than Gamespot. To get videos from Gamespot they always want you to sign up and if you d/l stuff... you have to get their d/l manager. IGN you don't always have to get the manager. I do trust Gamespot's reviews more sometimes though. Like DOA beach volleyball for example...9.something on ign..and a good low score on gamespot. I rented it...the game is lame..just for pervs that wanna stare at animated jigglyness IMO.

Holy ****, I think I'm gonna puke.

I hate Gamespy, IGN and Gamespot... well at least now, in a way, there's one less to hate.

I think some of you need to use up all of your free time maintaining a massive web community, unfunded, all the web servers for the site and downloads, all the content you'd have to write, the coding, the effort out of your own pocket and see how long it takes you to get bankrupt.

I've been going to Gamespy and IGN for a long time, and I saw both of them when they were free. The quality was a lot poorer than it is now, there were no download servers, there wasn't many updates - now, for small optional charges here and there you can get everything you need.

Lay off the guys.

I used to like gamespy but have never liked IGN, now i despise them both and almost never visit them(especialy IGN).

Well said, I'm always amazed that people think that these things are run scott free.

i dont really like ign or gamespy myself.....

but you have to realise....these are kids here.....they are still 100% supported by there parents.

they dont understand how much this stuff costs.....

That is quite possibly the most arrogant comment I've ever seen on these boards. And trust me, I've seen lots.

how so?

im not 12....even if i act like it sometimes.

my comment is accurate....... not many 15 year olds support themselves.

Apologies, I misunderstood your post. I now agree with you :D

I thought you were saying that the people running GS and IGN were kids and sponging off their parents :cheese:

i meant some members of this forum....and the internet community in general.

just to be more specific. i wasnt talking about the owner(s) of ign/gamespy.

I know that now and I apologise for what I said :)

right they're greedy corporate fiends that eat babies and sell crack to kittens on the weekends, right? right?? isn't that right christopher???

welp, i've never really had any use for either of those companies, so i can't really comment on them at all. though isn't it likely that the merger is an act of financial desperation on the part of ign?

oh, btw, has there been a thread about what game review sites people like best?

I always liked IGN. I go to GameSpot and IGN for my gaming information, and IGN has a LOT more information then GameSpot. I hate the fact that both of these websites were free services and now you have to pay for them. I thought the IGN and GameSpy Emerger would be a good thing. Why do you guys hate IGN and GameSpy so much?
