It's right on schedule, Gamespy's yearly Gamer's Choice awards are here!
It's that time of year again when we need to choose the top games of the year. We've already made most of our decisions, but our awards aren't complete without the gamers of the world having their say. Now is your chance to be heard and vote for the game that you think is most deserving. Last year, some great games got the nod from fans. In 2001, there were even some surprises! So your voice DOES make a difference! We will alert developers and publishers about the winners in these categories after our overall winners are announced on Dec. 22!
[br]So, head on over to the PC Action section, the PC multiplayer section and finally, and most importantly the overall best PC game of 2004, and vote Half-Life 2!

I have fulfilled my duty already. However, I've cleared out my cookies since then...

if they give Halo 2 the award I'm going to throw myself out of the nearest window.

Luckily thats only a five foot drop.

Voted for Hl2... hopefully the Halo 2 fanbois wont register 1,000 new accounts just so Halo 2 could win the nomination. :|

Voted for Thief: Deadly Shadows. Best game I've played this year.

Sorry, i think your all to proud to back down... HL2 isn't that good. I voted World of Warcraft.

Nitpick: This isn't Gamespy's Game of the Year 2004, this is just Gamer's choice.

/me sits back down and keeps to himself

I voted Worms 3d, i love that game!! HL2 wasnt in that catagory. I voted HL2 everywhere else.

HL2 was in every single category. If HL2 loses don't blame me, I did my part =]

I voted HL2 for best Action Game and Best PC Game... I voted UT2004 for best Multiplayer though. I've always hated CS and I always will :)

More than understandable, even though I play CS obsessively.

What about HL2DM?

CS:S isn't that great but HL2DM is the most fun I've ever had online.

HL2, of all the games I've played this year is definitely the best overall.

Best multiplayer though? I don't know yet. Haven't tried HL2DM (finals coming up!) but I think WoW would be strong in that category.

Man, Halo 2 is going to win that so freaking hard. They know this. How could they not? Most of the people who are going to vote on this thing can't even afford a computer good enough to try HL2. They should of had the console and PC Gamers Choice separate like Gamespy did.

Well it's very fun and all, but in all honesty: how can a multiplayer mode that currently includes two official maps (which aren't anything astronomical anyway) and various bugs, lag issues and weapon balance problems possibly compare to a dedicated Multiplayer Component boasting 100+ maps straight out the box, 12 gametypes and a whole year's worth of tuning and refinement, not to mention the hundreds of decent maps, mods and other extras you can download (current decent custom map quota for HL2DM: 0. For UT2004: probably 200+). My UT2004 directory takes up more than 1/6th of my HD (ok, so it's only 60GB but that's still pretty big). UT2004 and HL2DM simply don't compare. They're both worth a good blast through of course, but UT2004 is accomplished, HL2DM has a long, long way to go.

i would, if this registration page wouldn't say:"stop! be nice and fill out this form." :(

Best single player PC game I voted for Far Cry
Best PC Multiplayer I voted for Unreal Tournament 2004
Best Overall Game I voted for Half-Life 2

most people who voted hl2 woulda voted hl2 even if they had never touched it. game of the year it ain't, replay value is nonexistant, and the multiplayer, both of them, however staggered, doesn't compete with halo 2, or even fc.
but it was a pretty fun 15 hours of gameplay and 3 hours of it spent waiting for the loads to finish

It seems that you don`t visit hl2.net regularly ;) There are already some custom hl2dm maps and more are on the way (just wait for the contest to finish) Trust me, in half a year hl2 will more custom maps and cool mods that the whole unreal series EVER had :) Just like hl1

I would vote HL2 for best single player, but mp? They didn't even release the MP at launch and all it is is deathmatch... nothing special. HL2DM is boring, I would never vote it as best multiplayer. I haven't played Halo 2, but if it's anything like the first one then it definitely beats HL2 hands down for multiplayer.

it will lose to all the retarded console kiddies

I'm well aware that there are already Custom maps out for HL2. Simply, their quality leaves much to be desired, but it's interesting to note that we're currently suffering from the same blight of "I gatz teh skillz to directly p0rt old maps to teh new eng1ne" that UT2004 itself suffered. Well, ignoring the fact that UT2004 mappers had a head-start of a year and a half due to UT2003... and the fact that in amoungst all the trash there were decent maps being released almost instantaneously...

Give it time and HL2DM may become something great. The problem is this a "Game of the Year 2004" debate, not 2005 :)

PC games are so hard to vote on, considering people vote only for the games they have played (and that's usually very few because people only buy so many PC games during a year, while you can rent a console game anytime). In all the nominees presented, I played (and completed) maybe 3 of those games like Far Cry, HL2, and UT2004. How do they expect me to choose between the 25 games there and expect me to not be biased towards the games I own?

Conlusion: Voting for PC games is a waste of time, as the results will only show the top selling games, which aren't necessarily the best, only more popular.

Yeah... UT2004 also didn't lag insanely when you played it...

No silly, that's Mac Users. Why else would they only give them a single mouse button?

/jk ^^

Done, I voted for Doom 3 :p
j/k I voted for HL2 of course, even in multiplayer. I still enjoy UT2004 mp more because of the maps, mutators and mods but I'm sure the HL2 community will release a lot of fantastic mods and maps the next months.
