I've recently come into a large sum of money, and plan to use it towards a grant to fund my gaming habbit.

The problem is, i'm going to the mall tommorow (no i'm not a mall rat) and plan on buying a game.

Now, I haven't played/purchased a game outside of source in a while, and there are tons for me to pick from.

The ones I want to get:

Black and White 2
FarCry
Fable
The Bard's Tale
Warhammer 4K
Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood
Call of Duty 2
Guild Wars

I've never delved into the world of MMO's and RPG's in general, and was thinking of picking up either Fable, the Bards Tale, or Guild Wars.

But I only want to purchase one game tommorow, and was thinking of either Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood, Call of Duty 2, or Black and White 2.

I LOVED the first BW, and just had to get two when it came out, but some really low scoring has me worried. I played the BIA:EIB demo, and I really liked it, but I don't know if I loved it. I LOVED being able to order your troops around and form flanks and other tactics on the go, without breaking from the first person action. I played the COD2 demo, and I dunno. It's a ton of fun, but just feels like one of those games that would just sorta, stop being fun after a while.

So can you guys guide me?

I'd forget about BIA:EIB if I were you...but that's only because I was extremely disapointed with the first one...

I think Guild Wars, BW2 and COD2 all seem buy-worthy...

Get Far Cry and Call of duty, then save the rest of the money for a PS3.

My bad, i thought you were going to buy all the games on the list :P

The first BIA got repetitive, but apparently this one is much better.

Don't get black and white 2. No multiplayer and it gets very very repetetive. Build a wall, build up city/army. If enemy sends a catapult have creature kill it then close gates and they cant do anything. Every land is the same thing.

ZOMG! I just played the Warhammer 40K demo, and I just fell in love with the game!

Most RTS' I just can't tollerate, they're way too fast. While i'm formulating complex attack patterns or just trying to regroup, I keep getting pummeled by enemy recon squads of like, 5 guys.

But this game, I get time to sit and plan, check the lay of the lan, explore the land.

Ok, I think I might get this and CoD 2

What do you guys think of CoD 2? I might get this and BW2 if CoD 2 isn't that good.

I bought Guild Wars last month, and all I have to say for it is 120+ hours in my xfire account history. :P

EDIT: O gosh, 666th post. Atleast it's not condemning anyone to hell. :D I love everyone!

Ok, after hearing tons of good things about AOE3 from cyberpitz, and not having ever played an AOE game, I was thinking of maybe getting that instead of Warhammer 40K.

What are your guy's oppinions on it? I want a realistic RTS where I can have time to plan my attacks, and formulate flanks and distractions that are REALISTIC. None of this, ammas as big an army as you can, then play rock paper scizors with another army, biggest one wins. Warhammer 40K seems to be one of those My army is Bigger than yours games I formentioned, but it's JUST SO DAMNED COOL!

Advanced Wars would be a good game to compare to. I LOVED THE FIRST ONE! The whole tacticle aspect of it was good fun to me.

I guess the kind of RTS i'm looking for is one that involves intricate unit micro management and tactics to succede. Sound like AOE3 to you guys?

I might try see if I can find the demo CD tommorow, but for now, i'm off to bed.

EDIT: On the turned based side of things, how was CIV 4?

I'm not a fan of CoD2 (thought the original was poor too) Try the demo and see what you think.

AoE3 could be a good choice if you haven't played the previous in the series. I've loved AoE over the years and the only reason I don't own the 3rd is because not much has changed since the original.

40K is good fun - go for it :)

Did try the demo, and as I said, it feels like one of those games that would get old fast. It was HELLA fun though, just way too linear and the death animations just started to piss me off.

But yeah, the kind of answer I was looking for

So AoE3 and 40K it is.

Now just to find a way to get to the mall. My friend flaked out on me :P

WH40k is one of the most tactical RTS games I have played (Warhammer: Dark Omen is likely the only exception). But TBS tend to be more based around tactics then RTS games though...

Pretty much my only complaint about DoW post expansion is that vehicle rushes are STILL to powerful. If you have not prepered for a vehicle rush specifically you have trouble.

Fortunatly vehicle rushes are not that common.

GOD DAMNT I LOVE THIS GAME!

They say that it's almost impossible to turtle, but it's still hella fun to try!

I was playing a demo skirmish on the tutorial map, and ammased a few marines and went straight south (I started top left), capped the point there, and formed an outpost.

Then I brought in a whirlwind into the park area, and set it up for offensive barrage.

The CPU almost had me while I was distracted with my outpost, but I managed to scrape together a few drednaughts and make a comeback. Then I took a few predators and had them rondevous with the outpost while I sent some marines I built for vehicle destruction to assault the base, while my whirlwind rained hell on those who tried to attack them.

Then the predator and the rest of the battalion met up with them, and they continued on in a massive turtle back north, while the whirlwind kept their tail clean

So then I took the drednaughts I rushed for base defense, brought them a predator, recouped them, and made an offensive flank east.

KAPLURGE!

HAHA!

I MOTHER****ING HAVE TO GET THIS GAME!

Ok, I bought Dawn of War, and I have to say...

I LOVE IT!
