Is there a program that's like (or is?) Garage Band that's for PC?

I don't know much about Garage Band, or Ableton Live, but, how about Ableton Live?

Ableton Live is like a much more intense, capable version of GarageBand. If you want something pretty easy to learn and beginner-friendly to make electronic music, go with Fruity Loops (FLstudio). GarageBand is trash anyway.

I have the full version of FL Studio 8 with like a hundred plugins, I was just ****in around with Garage Band at school on the mac, and I like making tunes out of the pre recorded riffs and jags they got on there. You can get some cool sounding stuff. It's a great time killer. I always get too into it while in FL Studio BECAUSE it's too capable.

Here is a link to an article(s) about MixCraft. I don't know if there is a demo for it as it is $65

Mixcraft, an audio looping and editing tool made by Acousitca, is the first application for Windows that makes it simple to start building a song in a matter of minutes like you can with GarageBand. Mixcraft integrates loop importing. Mixcraft is even compatible with Apple Loops used in GarageBand. Voice and music recording are supported both with virtual and real instruments. Beat matching and key changes happen on the fly just like they do in GarageBand

Mixcraft is the Windows equivalent to GarageBand. Mixcraft is so good, I think Microsoft should buy Acoustica and offer Mixcraft alongside Windows Movie Maker, Photo Story, and their other media apps as the Windows version of iLife.

I've actually been looking for a similar program for some time. Before I came down to uni, I saw a post on Lifehacker about LMMS: http://lifehacker.com/5216103/lmms-turns-your-desktop-into-a-music-sequencing-monster and gave it a go. It's still a little more complicated than garageband, but I actually got further with it than anything else I'd tried--and it's free! I'd give that a go too if I were you.

By the way, this is coming from someone who has no instrumental knowledge, can barely read sheet music, and can only barely play piano (still learning), so it's quite good I got that far with it.

Well that's a given for any PC doppelgänger to Mac software, isn't it?

Oh, but Ableton Live is far more than a doppleganger, it's full-fledged professional music software. The only real similarities with GarageBand is that the interface looks vaguely similar except Ableton has a shitload more stuff in it. Daft Punk uses Ableton Live.

STEEEEEEEEEEAM

MACHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE

AROUND THE WO-ORLD

Yeah, try something like Ableton Live. To be honest, though, FL is very capable of just doing simple looping and messing around.

For some reason I read this as 'Rock Band for PC?' and was severely baffled/excited.

Could always try Songsmith.
