Garry's Mod 8.3a Released

<a href="http://www.garry.tv/garrysmod">Garry's mod[/url] has now released 8.3 and is available in the <a href="http://www.garry.tv/garrysmod/download.php">download section[/url]. This version allows you to spawn NPCs, play HL2 Single player and adds icons to the spawn menu to make things a bit easier. A full changelog is
available here.[br]

[br]Update: Not long after the 8.3 release Gary came out with this update.
&quot;Hah! Bet you didn't see this coming. Jesus what an awful release. I know a lot of you want to believe it was all down to my shit coding but it wasn't - it was all down to me not testing the mod before I uploaded it. For the most part it was a bad compile&quot;. The new update contains the following:
  • [FIX] Blurry spawnmenu icons on rubbish graphics cards
  • [FIX] Ghost guide single player crash
  • [FIX] Weird Physics
  • [FIX] Model randomised every spawn
  • [FIX] Level transitions crapping out in multiplayer
  • [FIX] Killed 3D menu background
[br]
As usual you can download Garry's Mod 8.3a by clicking here.

Meh, I was pretty excited about the Co-Op portion of Gmod 8.3, but it's too buggy. Sven Coop 2 better be here soon. :|

Co-op doesn't seem to work for me, it can't find the maps. :(

Garry is a beast, churning new versions out like butter.

/me remembers v1 and v2 :O

The guy just doesn't run out of ideas, does he?

Euphuistic!

Oh wow great except my computer is out of order right now.

I'm waiting for him to get to a final version and leave it. Cba getting new versions all the time...
Although the menu looks nice and simple now.

TWO THUMBS UP FOR THE MENU! Jesus youre brave garry for doing that for each item linkin it to a picture!

Though i dont have fun playin this mod , i still feel forced to congratulate u garry! :smoking:

Murno as newsposter! Excellent... :p

What's godaweful about this version btw?

It's quit bugged. It shows the loading screen for a VERY long time. The spawn menu has pixilated pictures and are impossible to read. The only way to fix it is run the game on HIGH settings, which my pc cannot handle very well. It just seems to run a bit slower all around.

It's slower than probably all of the versions combined.
Garry didn't "incorporate" NPCs to hl2dm, he just switched back to half-life 2 which is way slower in terms of internet play. The "co-op" play is nearly unplayable there are things you could have removed before that you can't now so it takes up more ram, there are more crashes than ever... the list goes on, 8.2 was the best gmod version imo

I'm actually really glad to hear about the spawning npcs... Now I can make little arenas with ai_disable, and notarget, and then spawn guys in specific places, and then play it...

Make my own little scenarios, or setup cool battles between combine and resistance...

mmm :)

You could do that in the SP since day one. I use to make videos of NPC battles.

Oh man, the ignorance.

Half-Life 2 or HL2DM, it doesn't matter. The code is the same. The mod switched back to using HL2 as it's primary content. It doesn't effect speed at all. It just allows us to load the single player maps without extracting them from the gfc. Plus it has the nice side effect of getting NPC's animations working.

I really don't understand the "things that could be removed taking up more ram" thing. I mean literally.

It's funny but the previous version was the best version ever on every update I do.

Try the new version - it should be a lot less buggy.

Wow this guy is amazing with his mod.

My Radeon 9600SE isn't rubbish!

:(
No, its not. I have one and run circles around some 9500/9700PRO systems. :farmer:

Ok garry you have way to much time on your hands but congratz for being dedicated ^.^

bah I get to many crashes in single player.... that and in the begining of the first chapter I can't get past the metal turnstyle without using the no-clip cheat. In which the game ends up crashing as soon as I turn it off. :/

edit: just saw ver. 83a

For the first time today I did crash hl2.

After starting up gmod 8.3 and a MP mod and then just pile on tons of "exploding barrels" and wipout the pistol and after 2 secounds I just hear the sound and then c r a s h.

Hmmm looks like there is some bugs in this.

hello, im kinda new to the mod stuff, i am trying to figure out, but how do I actually get this mod to work, or where do i put it when I install it.some help would be nice.
