Garry's mod addon help

I really need help on Garry's Mod!

I really like the game, but have had some problems downloading addons and then using them. I've tried just extracting to the addons folder, I've tried extracting to the lua folder, and both at the same time! I've tried seperating each part of the mod and putting it in the right folder, i.e. the materials folder in the mods folder in the proper folder for the mod. None of these work! I've been trying for ages, and all I can do now is use downloaded maps. If it helps, when i play online an error comes up in red writing at the side of the screen after the lua client thing. please help me, I've almost given up hope, but I really want the wires and portal mods!!

I'm so sure its something dastardly simple, but I can't think what it is.

To find out how to install the wires addon, go directly to the official GMod10 site as they'll give you a step-by-step of how to install the official component.

If you still have problems, the update for gmod will be coming soon; presumably the wires mod will be made an official component to gmod, judging from the screenshot

Okay. I always try to remember a little guide I made up.It helps me know where things go.

If there is a notepad called "info" and at least a few files, it goes in the addons.

If there are only a few folders and they have the same name of those in the garrysmod folder, then it goes in the garrysmod folder.

If there is a readme, always READ it. Some files have exceptions.

In your case, the wiremod folder goes into the "addons" foler.

Are you using Garry's Mod 9 or 10? Because stuff for one won't work for the other.
